Well not totally free, you just pay £1.20 postage, still a good deal though.

Thanks for the info. Will be ordering one.

I wouldn't have known about this if I hadn't read your post. Checked on the link and possibly can increase my speed by 1.5Mbs.

did you do a speed test before and after? it takes about 3 days after you install the devide for any difference to appear.

I disconnected my bell wire in the main bt socket and my speed increased from 2mb up to 4.5mb.

Is there any point in me buying the thing to try it? Will it make a difference to me seeing as ive already disconnected the bell wire?

The sync speed should increase immediately but you're right the actual profile will take time to update.

And if you've already disconnected your bell wire then dont bother with this because thats all this does. Unless the filter is better though ?? - not sure.

The filter might do something 'extra' according to the thread about it on hotukdeals.com

My master socket is next to the front door to the house and I am currently using the telephone socket in the Living Room (extension socket) which I use for my HUB.

I would like to get the BT I-Plate however I wouldn't know how to install.

How much would BT charge to fit the new I Plate? Or is there anybody else who could do it for cheaper?

Would I benefit from a new I-Plate if I am using a telephone extension socket in the living room and not the master socket.

Installing an I-Plate is actually very simple. Remove the two screws holding the BT master socket cover panel in place, plug the iPlate in, replace the cover panel and use the two slightly longer screws supplied to do it up again. It only took me a couple of minutes.

Generally speaking yes. I have posted the logic behind this several times on these forums.

Aye - the further the wiring goes the more likely the signal will experience interference.

I have a set up where my Hub is on a 2nd socket but have a great line speed. I rewired when renovating putting the wire under the floorboards and is ~2-3metres in distance.

From previous experience - wiring on display running along skirting etc will end up getting damaged over time. It's worth getting it hidden away if possible.

I was told by the BT internet helpdesk that in general connecting to the master socket rather than an extension cable should see an increase in speed.

Have tried this several times but never seen an increase in speed (tested using BT speedtest website before and after).

Installed Iplate. IP profile went from 3.5M to 4.5M So I would say definitely worth a go

as a pointer

if your box has the openreach logo on it then this upgrade is not needed as it already has it installed. acording to their website.

i tried one for the hell of it and the speed stayed the same.

Shame they never had this offer before now for I went and bought one 3 or 4 weeks ago. It has worked well though for within a week of fitting it my speed has increased by just under 1mb and im now finding im getting a more steady speed in the evenings that I never used to get.

Does anyone know if it will help with the breaking up of some of the programmes on BT Vision?
