Have the humax for about 10 days and getting a handle on it at times can be slow and tedious. so I am taking the lazy way out and hoping that some more experienced users can advise.
1. What is the meaning of the letter "G" when one is looking at the lists of recorded programmes? For example I recorded some programmes from BBC4 on Monday relating to airports and flying.....some of the programmes in the last column had the letter G which was placed in a red ball, others did not.
2. I am anxious to be able to give some of these programmes to my son on a memory stick. I have connected up the humax to an ethernet cable from a router but on my PC cannot get to see the Humax device. Anyone any ideas on this. I know there is a USB on the Humax but how do you transfer a recording to a memory stick.

Perhaps its my own opinion but feel that the Humax manual could be a little more user friendly? Perhaps its like getting a new computer or car takes a few weeks to get used to using a device.

It stands from guidance. If you press the i button on the remote while the programme is highlighted it will tell you in red letters the reason for guidance

The ethernet port is not yet be enabled on the hdr it needs an upcomming upgrade to the software


put the stick into the usb port and wait for the onscreen message confirming the connection. Press the 'media' button then the 'opt+' button' then press the > cursor button to selecet the right hand pane and press the 'ok' button, this opens the destination location which is the cause of a lot of confusion when operators fail to perform this part. Press the < cursor button and scroll to the file you wish to transfer and then press the 'green' button. Note if the file is within a folder created by series linked schedules press the 'ok' button to open and then select the file.

for his help and yes I got to transfer the file to a USB stick. When i plugged it into my PC I note that there are three files on the disk one has a TS finish and the others have a NTS and LMT finish but all three files have the same name. Is there a conversion programme I need to get to run the TV programme on my PC. i am using Vista.
As far as the Guidence goes it was a warning about strong language.

The .TS file should play without conversion in many media players, including VLC.
The additional files (known as sidecar files) contain data used by the Humax only, and have no use on a PC (except that if you view the smaller one in a text editor, you will see the programme information)

As tv-Addict say VLC plays the .TS and can be obtained for free from http://www.videolan.org/

thanks all got the programme playing on my PC. Haved to say the quality from BBC 4 is excellent.

Now that you have it working we can add come confusion back in, if the file is over 4Gb then you'll have to format the stick using "ext3" - a linux disk format.

I'm hoping the more threads I mention FTP in the more likely Humax and more specifically Bob_cat will put me out of my misery adn tell me one way or the other - USB can't be the way for a linux PVR, come on tell us its coming !
