Apart from the incongruity that a friend close enough to quote Kate verbatim would sell repeated nasty stories to the Mirror, and the use of the word toad which suggests some middle-aged hack in itself, there is the basic problem that no one but Kate would know how she felt about the guy anyway. Even if she did have the initial reaction reported the comment would tell us nothing about how she felt later or now and the world is full of partnerships that grow beyond first impressions.
its sad enough that bulletin boards have people who dream up how people must feel from their bizarre, often generic, impressions of that persons character, but it would be really sad if a national newspaper actually employed some obsessive, vindictive, delusional person to produce worse stuff.
