Here's the Round Twenty Four Question:-

The Production Team are discussing changing the next Season of DW. Instead of having a run of 13 episodes they're considering breaking the season up in thrtee 'chunks' with 2 chunks of 4 episodes & one of 5 episodes, similar to the new set of Torchwood episodes to be shown. Do you think that this is a good idea? Any there are reservations you have about such a change?

Anyway, on with the game......

As with the last round you need to select which TWO of the characters listed below you like the least and submit your choices via PM. The character with the most votes will be evicted from the game.

No votes will be accepted after the deadline

The lovely Muttley76 has provided us with an excellent "Story So Far" video along with some clips at the end of the remaining 5 "candidates" just to refresh your memory a little......

So it's your least favourite TWO from:-

Season Three:

01) Human Nature / The Family Of Blood: The Family Of Blood
02) Blink: The Weeping Angels
03) Utopia: The Master (Derek Jacobi)
04) The Sound Of Drums / Last Of The Timelords: Harold Saxon / The Master (John Simm)

Season Four:

05) The Stolen Earth / Journey's End: Davros (Julian Bleach)

Voting closes at 8pm on Monday July 5th.

Remember Votes by PM ONLY

TBH, I think the format they have now works forr the nu who, because the episodes tend to be pacer, and that works better for the modern audience. Much as I enjoy snuggling up to wacth an episode of classic who, often they are rather slow paced and contain nunerous scenes of people walking down corridoors as if to fill the time allocated.

I think the right five have made it this far, tbh.

My vote for this round, however, is very straighforward.

Same for me please RK

As for the question, I like the format as it is as it builds up the momentum and I'm not sure if it would be as effective if it was split up.

No it should be left as one block. Judging by how fast the viewers went down in both Heartbeat and the Royal when they were shown in blocks of 3/4/5 it clearly does not work well for dramas.

I can't believe both masters are stil there. Derek Jacobi was Master for all of 3 minutes and John Simm's character was more pantomime than Roger Delgado.

Great video Muttley. Looking at that I honestly don't mind who wins now.

That!

I am very excited about the week of TW - feels like "event" TV, but with DW, I like the different stories. I do love my Classic Who, was a fan when I was younger, but like Muttley says, don't think that kind of pace would work well these days.

It might have only been for three minutes, but DJ's Master was superb, it's a case of quality not quantity there I think

As for JS - well, it's all a matter of personal opinion, didn't work for you, clearly, but a lot of people found his performanc to be both iconic and highly memorable,

hence the excitment over his apparent return.

I feel they merit there places in the top 5, tbh.

I was terrified of Roger Delgado when I was a kid. His voice still sends chills down my spine. As did Derek Jacobi during his all too brief performance.

Both masters are well deserving of a top 5 placing IMO.

I knew it wouldn't happen, but I still wanted Sky to be number one.

Although it may work differently in the UK, in the US it's usually a disaster for ratings to take breaks in a season, so I would say keep it all together. Maybe have three arcs, but air them over 13 weeks (or 14? I think there's usually at least one week off somewhere, and that doesn't do too much damage).

For Eurovision! Arguably the only time where some of the gay fanbase would rather Doctor Who was NOT on

I agree, and I have to admit, these survivor games more or less reasure me that sometimes the amount of feelings and comments that you seemingly get about certain aspects of the show, like Simm's performance of the Master, or the Daleks returning a lot, on the net, you'd think that RTD made the worst Choice possible, and the show isn't doing its job in giving people what it wants......are actually quite opposite to what most people think.....and I am not using the majority wins over minority debate....I'm just saying that sometimes the comments you get, it feels that more people hate/dislike the current format than love/like it......but actually its the reverse.....and that is reasurring because it means the show will live on hopefully....

Same for me RK

Now it's difficult!

For the first time I'll have to vote for someone in my personal top 10 (which I suppose just shows that my choices are strange compared to everyone else's, but I have my reasons!) and I don't know who to choose. I'll send my votes in a few minutes when I've made up my mind.

As regards the question, I don't think splitting up the series would be a good idea. One of the strengths of Doctor Who is the mix of episodes, the balance between light, funny stories and the darker, more frightening ones. While the darker stories are more likely to rank highly on my list of personal favourites- they have more impact, and stick in the mind more- I enjoy both (loved The Unicorn And The Wasp), and certainly the range on offer seems to have a lot to do with the popularity of the series. In shorter mini-series, there would be less opportunity to vary the episodes in this manner and something- probably the more light hearted episodes- would be lost. It would also be harder for casual viewers to dip in and out of the series. Given the timeslot and target audience, I think the balance is needed, and this would be much harder to achieve with a few concentrated short series than one long one.

P.S. Brilliant vid Muttley, nice to be reminded of all those voted out.
