My macaroni cheese is lush, not bland at all. A lovely salad and some focaccia goes really well

I just don't get this carbs accompanied with different carbs thing.

Macaroni cheese, if well made, and especially if it has extras like lardons, peppers, mushrooms etc is delicious in its own right. As far as I am concerned, the only thing that can accompany it is a nice, freshly made salad, preferably green, to offset the richness of the cheese sauce.

I wouldn't eat macaroni cheese. Can't bear it for some reason even though I like pasta and I like cheese sauce, just not together.

However, my sister is a huge fan and likes nothing better than to have it with baked beans (which I don't like either!).

Not a problem Jamcake, you can buy ciabatta straight from the bakers and if you have a blowtorch handy, you can use that to brown the top.

I always slice a few large tomatoes or put cherry toms left whole on top. Cuts through the richness and makes you feel it's a bit healthier

I add rocket, spring onion, chestnut mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and sundried tomatoes plus use a mix of emmental and parmesan and dot the top with buffallo mozzarella - I usually find I only want a leaf salad as accompaniment.

I'm going to make Macaroni Cheese tonight! Been having cravings for it since I got back from the US last week, so finally getting around to making it. Good old-fashioned comfort food !! I had the most amazing Mac and Cheese in Florida, and need to try and make one as good!

I'm probably going to have it with some veg - brocolli and peas most likely, just to make sure I get something healthy in there!
