My pet tarantula just died :-(

I just came home from work to find my pet tarantula has died....

I had him since he was tiny (in fact his name was Tiny The Tarantula, or T.T.T for short)...

Had him since 2005 - a few weeks ago he twisted a leg, and I think that was the beginning of the end for him...

He was a wonderful pet and brought me hours of fascination...

anyway, R.I.P TTT -

I am sorry to hear that. I think tarantula's and snakes are so fasinating.

I'm very sorry about your loss, alienpanda, even though I'm not a tarantula fan (they give me the willies TBH!)

I'm sorry for your loss - I love Tarantulas, think they are beautiful creatures!

I know this sounds a little weird, but could you maybe get a pretty houseplant, re-pot it, and bury your spider there? That way you could have a little remembrance plant for him.

It's what I would do.

It's a phobia and not rational so you can't just say "why are you scared of them". I wish people would understand this.

That sounds like a lovely way for alienpanda to remember TTT by.

Sorry for your loss alienpanda. I know a lot of people don't like spiders but I think they're cool especially tarantulas and those great big spiders with the long legs (daddy long legs?).

Also thought I'd show my sympathy for your loss being a previous bird owner, as a lot of people don't seem to understand our loss because it's not a cat or dog which seem to be regarded higher.

It's difficult to understand because I can't see how there is any interaction. A cat or a dog looks at you when come home and recognises you and sits on you knee and plays with you. How can you do that with a spider? I'm not saying some sort of rapport can't exist but I just don't get it really. Maybe someone could explain it.

You used to post videos of him didn't you? I seem to remember watching some.

How did he twist his leg?

Awww, I am sorry

I can't say im a massive fan of spiders but tarantula is more like a hamster or mouse or something, if you understand what im saying. they're not small... they are "petly"

One thing to ask. Do taratulas bite.. I know they are capable but what's the likelihood of them doing it and does it hurt?

I used to keep lots of tarantulas and my first was an Avicularia Metallica. When she died (at about 5 years) I was gutted, and I wanted her to stay with me so I bought a pot plant (yucca) and planted her in the soil so I could keep her memory alive. I hope this helps.

I enjoyed watching that. Will you be getting another spider in the near future?
