Recent nominees have included Alison Moyet and Annie Lennox, so don't be suprised if Rachel Stevens is in there every year for the next 10 years !

I think it would have seemed alittle odd to exclude the only British female artist to get a no.1 in the singles chart this year, don't you reckon?

Considering it also seems to be a notoriously weak group every year anyway, with them struggling to get five sensible choices each time.

Basically you've got the record selling juggernaut that is Dido, and the also-rans, who've all had limited/patchy success this year. Hopefully Ms Dynamite might be back next year to give her a run for her money, and Jamilia will come out with some more good tunes to make a good third contender.

I'd have also thought Rachel might be getting a third stab at the singles chart too, before everyone totally writes her off quite so early.

Anyone know what date the Brits are on?

No.

This is an awards ceremony and should be based on talent, something of which Ms Stevens has yet to show she has anything of whatsoever. She's not a genuine artist, she's a record company puppet. Every time she appears on screen doing her non-dance and bad miming a real singer is being robbed of an opportunity to shine.

She is currently having a career - which won't last much longer unless she begins to prove herself - based purely on image. She is the epitome of what is wrong with the music business these days.

The Brits have proved themselves to be an absolute farce with this nomination alone. It is now irrelevent who wins.

But youre demanding the Brits be something that they aren't, and will never be. It's the british music industries main awards, and the british music industry, whether you like it or not, is an industry, built on record sales. Therefore record sales will aways be a factor in nominations and awards.

Should maybe also consider that the success of a particular artist, is never just based on the talent of the artist, but also of the songwriters and producers of that artist. Ok, so "real" bands usually write their own stuff, but not many produce their own stuff. Music success is based invariably on a team effort. So when an artist gets nominated, or wins an award, its rarely just about them, no matter how credible they are.

She didn't get a number 1 anyway, SDMLAX went in at number 2.

Well I looked on everyhit.com, (maybe your source?), and youre right, it has it at no.2. But, I noticed about a week ago (cant remember what the track was), that it varies from the "official" chart that radio1 uses, which is based on record sales. I'm pretty sure I remember SDMLAX making no.1 on the official chart. Not only that, it was in for record of the year, and if I remember rightly, someone stated the songs in that had to be no.1s.

Theres that many different charts floating around these days, its hard to know whats going on.

Anyone know where everyhit.com gets its chart position stats from?
