BT customer looking for cheaper calls to one particular mobile
Hi all,
We're with BT and have the Unlimited calls plan which now includes mobile calls for 7p per minute (I think). But my brother who we call a lot only has a mobile (Tesco) and can't afford a landline and he never seems to have any credit and so we have to keep calling him back upto and over an hour at a time. I really want to lower my BT bill which for this month is £120 - £40 of that is calls to my brother. This includes broadband which is just under £30 a month I think. We decided to all get Vodafone Pay-As-You-Go mobiles with Vodafone Family - unlimited calls between us for £5 per month which I don't mind paying - much better than the £40 I was paying for calls to my brother. I've sent my brother £20 and then another £40 - with him saying he was going to get a mobile to use the Vodafone SIM card which I arranged for him but he keeps making excuses saying he spoke to this second hand shop and the cheapest Nokia that supports Vodafone was £90 !! I get the feeling I've been had !!! ![]() The Nokia that I've just bought my Dad for his birthday was only £40 with a SIM and £10 credit. I should have just asked Vodafone to send him one of those !! Anyway, is there anyway in the meantime I can get cheaper calls from our BT line to his Tesco Mobile, like a third-party calls provider or something because I think that 7p per minute is a bit steep. Can anyone recommend anything, please? Perhaps Sky Talk as we already have Sky? Would it be possible just to use them for mobile calls and keep BT for landline calls which are free? Many thanks, Steve. |

We have just got Skype at work and it is saving us a fortune as we phone Africa all the time. |

From what he says I get the impression that he needs/wants to keep is Tesco number available 24/7 - also I think the Tesco phone is locked.
They don't have a land line or broadband at the moment as they are not going to be at their current rented home for much longer. It is also debatable whether or not they could afford it. |

It only costs around £10.00 to get a mobile unlocked.

One option would be to switch over the the Post Office for your line rental. They include mobile calls as part of their inclusive package at the weekend. If you also persuade some of the other people you call to swap as well you could save even more as they include any calls to other Post Office line rental customers in the package anytime.

Why not get him to port his Tesco number to Vodafone and then add that to Vodafone family instead?
