I had a failed recording last night of Celebrity Master Chef. The red clock was still up on the EPG rather than the red recording icon. The series link folder was empty. The failed recording was listed as a singleton further down the media list.
As noboby else has posted a similar event I assumed it was down to me. I've just tumbled on a possible reason. I think I was in the middle of deleting something when the scheduled recording should have started. It is a fact that until resolved possibly with an update () recording and deleting are mutually exclusive.
Moral of the story don't delete anything just prior to a recording

Hi germanycalling.

My CMC didn't record either, and was orphaned outside of the Folder as a 0min Failed Recording.

I just assumed that the BBC might have screwed the EPG or EITp/f data up again with Wimbledon Schedules, but I don't know as I wasn't watching Wimbledon, or the EPG

We weren't deleting anything as the box was already recording something else, but there would have been no conflict/clash either.

Edit : Although, I too have wondered what would happen if you try deleting something large, just seconds before a recording is due to start, but haven't had the courage to try it yet

It recorded OK on my Freeview box.

Rgds.

Les just stuck the old 320Gb drive in the caddy (not wanting to corrupt the 1Tb). Set a recording for 11:30 and deleted a file (1 HR HD) with 30 sec to go. The rec icon came up about 10 sec after I confirmed the delete. After the deletion I was able to chase play the new recording with no problems

Graham,

Thanks for testing this

Disk Corruption, or losing the start of the Timer, were my main worries; now no more

Cheers.

Thanks for the information Graham & Les.

So I wasn't the only one then! Interestingly I was deleting an hour's worth of HD too (Sanjeev in India, not over impressed with PQ) so it was quite a chunky file. I wonder in anyone from BBC Tech will let us know what went wrong with the EPG? No harm done as I shifted to watching it live as soon as I realised it wasn't recording. Good job I was home really.

On a parallel topic my C4 schedules are still putting The Simpsons in two different folders in what I can only assume is a random manner. But as long as it records I'm happy!

I got another orphan last night. Just for fun I requested a series record of Indian Food Made Easy on BBC HD. I wanted to have a "never copied" file as well as the "copied once" which I already have, to play with.

It seems that BoobyC dropped the programme I wanted as the MJ tribute seriously over ran. It disappeared from the EPG. However I did have a failed recording of 0 minutes in the root directory.

Thus I would conclude that orphaned failures of 0 minutes = attempted to record something that was changed in EPG less than 15 minutes before due start time.

Thoughts anyone?

Yes 0min files, as opposed to just nothing present, usually indicate the timer attempted to record, but then failed immediately.

One possible scenario here is that the broadcaster still sent the EITp/f (start/stop) signals for AR to kick in, but then the timer couldn't find the programme that corresponded with that CRID data at that time, and immediately terminated.

Rgds.

On the rare occasion when not home and there are three things to record I discovered that there was a non-clash with the three channels in question. Thus I set the third as "watch" with the blue icon, got home before the third channel had been recording for two hours and RESULT! Beat that Panasonic!

Do you mean that the 3rd channel combination also allowed Timeslip? So you got home, rewound the buffer, and watched that? This is entirely possible for some combinations, and predictable using Graham Thompson's Excel Clash Detector spreadsheet - very useful

I don't think the Panny's can even Watch a 3rd channel, let alone TS it.

Or have I misunderstood what you did?

Exactly that! Can't think why it didn't dawn on me before Hence I thought I would post it as others might benefit. BTW I refer to it as Graham's EXCELLENT clash detector

Me too, I often use it, also to analyse recording problems reported by other posters

It was a good tip to post for new users not aware of the box's capabilities.

It's a shame you can't record the 3rd like the icord allows. Are you listening Humax

As at the moment I cannot get on the Hummy Forum, can anyone give me a valid link to graham's marvel. The version I have must be a tad out of date.

Graham also posts updates here, in this thread. I've linked to the post containing the link to the latest version V11.

In fairness I seem to recall Bob_Cat stated that this was a feature that was omitted to make the 300 quid launch price. Was tempted by the icord, but the Freesat EPG, 320Gb drive and ability to get ITV HD easily made it a no brainer for me.

It can't be that hard the spare tuner is already writing to the HDD. how hard can it be to save the data

Apparently our hdr regularly leaves a broken recording icon for Trisha Goddard in the root folder, instead of a programme in the series folder.

Meh!
