A new approach

Yes, the Doctor can go up against his daleks and his cybermen, but what if he had to go up against people he didn't really expect. The Public.

Surely, at least after Torchwood, the public will be coming a 'tad' suspicious about the weird events over the last few years. If groups got together (more sophisticated than LYNDA ) to get answers - they could end up confronting the Doctor himself.

It would certainly be different, especially since the Doctor isn't prone to being the mass murderer of innocent human beings

Well that's the thing. We keep being told that the world knows about aliens (such as anticipating an attack during Voyage Of The Damned) but at the same time they also don't seem to be that concerned about it happening again until it does happen again. Wouldn't they demand that earth defence be put in place? (since they don't know it already exists as Torchwood). It's as if they accept every invasion attempt to be the 'last' attempt and then look surprised when they're being attacked again. Then again I suposse it's hard to keep calm about being invaded, even if you know it's possible.

Whilst none of the public have confronted the doctor, there have been plenty of Official or governmental people to pull him up on it and numerous baddies have exploited the mass murder angle as a weakness, such as Margaret Slitheen and Davros. Perhaps Davros should have turned a loud speaker on the earth and attempted to turn them against the doctor.

In fact, the only possible way the public could get the whole picture (after all they never know who saves them each time, they usually just run out of there houses shouting "it's a miracle!") is to have the doctor's face identified en mass to the nation via tv or whatever. Otherwise years of LINDA-esque investigation is needed, I mean he's not that easy to spot!

Be nice to see some more good human adversaries. We've seen how hairy it got for the Dr with the humans in Midnight so it might be a good avenue to explore.

To be honest I'd like to see stories that don't involve humans and alien invasions. There are so many possibilities of stories they can do why keep doing essentially the same thing over and over?

I can't wait to see Children of Earth, but
Spoiler
from the trailers it does look like aliens controlling human's again

So to see more in Doctor Who would be overload for me.

Why can't we have an entire series set on different planets, or even one different planet?

Yes I have heard all the reasons and excuses as to why we don't see many alien worlds but frankly I don't really buy it any more. I think the Earthbound, human interest stories were very much part of RTD's identity for Doctor Who. I'd like to see Moffat take us elsewhere.

I agree it's very much a RTD thing. Hopefully Moffat will take it in another direction a bit.
