What to eat when you have a Hiatus Hernia
Poison_Feng

I am posting this under food and drink, because it is all about what can and cannot be eaten.

Who else among the 30% of over 50s who have a hiatus hernia, is having trouble with the so called lists of banned foods?

I am very interested to find out what foods people eat that actually help to improve the condition.

Apart from taking the various drugs, I have heard that certain types of apple help.

Any ideas?

I have a hiatus hernia. When it's troubling me, I can't eat anything without being sick, and I mean anything.

When I'm feeling fine, I can eat anything I want, that includes the foods you're supposed to stay clear of.

I've found if I put on a few pounds, then I start to get bother with it, so try and keep my weight steady.

Sorry that wasn't much help was it.

Actually, it was.

I thought I was on my own.

We are told to eat small but often and I find that I have stomach pains if I follow this method.

Like you, if I eat as I used to, the weight goes up so it is a loose loose situation.

The stomach settling drugs make me feel sick and I guess I will just have to experiment with diet.

Thanks anyway.

There's been a few threads in advice about hiatus hernias. If you read them, maybe they'll be of some help.

You could ask your doctor for anti sickness tablets, to try and stop the nausea, though they didn't work for me, and if the symptoms are really bad, you could always get an op.

Hope you find something that works for you, as I know how much having a hiatus hernia can really affect your day to day to life.

I read all of those threads, mainly comparing operation scars etc.

I was hoping that on the F & D page, we might have some wise old gardeners who have gone through this themselves but do not read the advice forums.

Nope, I guess it's down to trial and error with the food.

I find that yogurt settles me for about half an hour and curries don't seem to upset it, but I would dearly love to find out what brand of apple it is that helps.

I must admit that I do miss the glass of wine or pint of real ale. Still, at least I have memories of what they taste like.

I don't have a hiatus hernia, but perhaps these links might help, P_F?

You may have already seen them but just thought I'd pop in and add them in case.

Thanks,

Perhaps I should not get so wound up on the politics forum, then I would not have such a problem.
