Michelle Does The Inevitable
No surprises that she's Number One. But she didn't do nearly as well as Will. Still, in almost any week against almost any competition, 140k or so is enough to secure top 3. Well done her!

I wish her luck because I think she'll need it. I would have expected higher sales considering the millions of votes she got in the final and all the publicity of Pop Idol. May be its just the song but it doesn't bode well for the future....

She seems like an intelligent person and probably realises that her time in the charts will be most likely be limited because pop is a transient world.
No doubt she'll enjoy her success and so she should, but it's hard for singers to survive in pop, particularly when they depend on other people to write good songs for them. |

I bought it. I thought it was a re-release of Evergreen. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was actually Evergreen with different lyrics put on top.

I would imagine an mp3 would be here very soon. They are playing it again today.

118,000 sales is a very poor result.
Thank goodness the public are getting sick of reality show winners. |

lol
Every major artist in the UK would kill for first week sales of 118,000 at this time of year. The first pop idol was a distorted result, because the single was released 2 days after the final. Michelle is going to be number one again this week, from what I've heard. |

You make it sound like 118,000 is the final figure Michelle has sold. That is her first week sales. You've forgotten about all the sales she will acquire through her chart tun of probably more than 10 weeks as it falls down the top 40. It'll sell another 60k this week easily, and 30 the week after. I reckon you're looking at more like 350,000 sales ultimately.
And then her album - do you think it'll do any less business than Alex Parks, which has sold 250k plus so far? Get your figures into perspective, before putting Michelle into perspective! |

Sorry but she was chosen by the public out of 20,000
She had masses of peak time TV and media publicity week after week that most singers can only dream about, equal to tens of millions of pounds worth of advertising. She had over 10 million viewers She had 5 millions of votes She had some of the most commercially successful producers And with all that pent up demand she only sold 118,000 |

You cannot rate failure as a measure against the total population. you can only rate it against other sales figures. and Michelle , at the moment, is doing extremely well. |

I thought this thread was going to say that Michelle was going to appear in Playboy (shudder).
Which to be honest would be more interesting than her singing |

Originally posted by SwordFish Good points. It is ridiculous to compare an entire population to the total sales a pop artist has. So if 230 million people don't give a hoot about Justin, he must be a flop?!
