Hello there,

My old thompson sky box has recently died on me and I am wanting to get a new box.
What would be best for me as I live in Germany with no payed service.
Freesat+ , HD with HD drive.Or any other option.

Ideally i would like to record the channels while watching another.

Anything would be better than the normal freeview.

Thanks in advance

S&F

Rob

p.s. I also have a freeview card from sky.

If you would like HD, and the ability to record easily there is only one affordable option at present and that is the Humax HDR. It has the further advantage that you can use it on more than one satellite if you have a suitably equipped dish. This might be important to you as you are in Germany too.
At the other end of the spectrum you can buy very cheap (~ 25 Euros) Free To Air receivers in Germany which will let you watch all the non-encrypted stuff from UK or again more than one satellite with again a suitably equipped dish.
To help you further it would be best if you give a "wish" list of what is important to you. For example if you definitely need Fiver for example then you would need to stick with a $ky box and flea-bay would be the place to go.

Thanks for that.

What is important is having the ability to watch ITV's Corry and Emmerdale previews and catchups like on any Sky box.

Also i would like to still watch BBC3 and 4 and Sky3 if possible.
With a slot for the sky card.

A normal Sky box would be good with Freeview+, but dont you have to pay 10 pounds a month for the recording option.

Also what boxes would you recomend.

Thanks again

Rob

Unfortunately I have never used $ky so I do not know what is "normal" in respect of the previews and or catch-ups.

However if Sky 3 is important to you then you will need to stick with a $ky system as it is not available with FreeSat nor Free To Air.

To give you a rough idea you can compare what you are used to with $ky to http://freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main and

All of the above is available for free

SKY+ only offer a sub from £10 a month just for recording, if you don't pay the sub you can't record the box just tells you to upgrade to the 1st package.

Your only option is a Freesat Humax to record, but you won't get sky 3 - You will get BBC3 and 4 though.

There is only 1 freesat box that records at the moment and thats the Humax Foxsat, there is more coming soon but this is the only 1 on the market.

There is a slot fitted for a sky card to be inserted but the card has to be put into a sky box every so often otherwise it just de-activates itself - It was possible to decode SKY3 and 4HD with a CAM fitted but the NEW Sky white cards have put a stop to that.
