Problems with recording
Hi has anybody had the following problem and if so does anybody know how to stop it happening?
I have had several programs set to record on E4 and one on BBC2 which say they have recorded. However when I have tried to replay them all I get is a blank black screen. Fast forwarding, rewinding or stopping and staring does nothing. All i can do is backup to the previous menu |

Sounds like you may have had a loss of signal when you were recording. Is there any transmitter work going on in your area?

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I am not aware of any transmitter work going on. Also the problem seems to occur specifically with the same program on E4 (BBLB sad I know) and the same thing used to happen with the Sarah Conner Chronicles a while back (cant remember which channel that was on). It would be useful if the Vision box could give an indication of why it hasnt recorded properly |

I guess it was a question of 'taste'...

If you're recording consecutive programmes on a channel and recording from another channel at the same time, it could fail because of the 5 minutes that are added on automatically to the end of each recording. For example:
record e4 8:00 - 9:00 will actually continue to 9:05 record bbc1 8:30 - 9:30 will actually record until 9:35 record e4 9:00 - 10:00 will fail as it is recordingtwo things already (even though one of them is on the same channel) Easily avoided - just change the record settings for the first show to finish 'At scheduled time' and all will record fine. If anything is scheduled but can't record it will be indicated by a red x symbol where the record symbol will usually be in 'Scheduled recordings' |

Have done some further investigation with this and found if I reset the vision box when this happens, the program is usually watchable. Any ideas why this is happening?

Have had a similar problem myself. Started watching a recording last night, and it played fine. Stopped it halfway to go to bed. This morning there was no 'resume play' option to start off where I stopped the recording, and just got a black screen when I pressed play.
I tried on other recordings and got the same. Have rebooted the box 4 times now, and just get stuck on the 'please wait' screen

Had no BT Vision myself for Wednesday and Thursday last week, after about 6 reboots it decided to work Friday morning, still having trouble recording stuff and getting the On Demand to work. I know all it takes is phoning BT up but that really is the last resort for me now.
Worst company ever in my eyes, a true bloody shambles, its a shame really because most of the engineers who ive ever delt with have been brilliant. |

The only formal complaint ive ever made to a company in my life was BT, I never heard anything back either. |

Hi Doctordalek - and others
On the latest software the 'padding' (extra time before / after a recording) is 'soft' so the VBox can manage to start / stop recordings at the same time. It's actually possible to have up to 4 programmes start / stop recording at the same time as the VBox takes the padding off each programme as needed. The following scenarios are possible and I'm testing them again at the moment to confirm that they work on our vision box: 2 recordings on one channel, while watching live TV (confirmed) AAAAAABBBBBB 2 recordings on different channels, while watching live TV (confirmed) AAAAAA .............BBBBBB 4 recordings on 2 channels, while watching a recording/VOD (confirmed) AAAAAABBBBBB CCCCCCDDDDDD 4 recordings on 4 different channels, while watching a recording/VOD (confirmed) AAAAAA .............BBBBBB CCCCCC .............DDDDDD Based on Doctordalek's description of the issue he either had a simple recording failure or may have a tuner problem in the VBox. The next thing to try is to watch live TV while recording a different channel and check that the recording works correctly. If TV and recording at the same time works normally then the tuners are OK and he's had a single failed recording. Whilst this is regrettable it is not a huge concern unless it continues to happen. If recording and viewing fails then the you should factory reset the box, but be advised that this will wipe all the recordings you currently have stored. If you are still unable to record and view at the same time then respond here and I'll raise a fault for you to call in an book for an engineer visit. Please note that if the engineer determines that the problem was due to mis-operation or damage to the equipment the visit will be charged. All the best, Robbie |
