getting tar out of fur
xdow
06-07-2009
me sister built an aviary, tarred the felt to the roof of it, didn;t realise it was dripping down one side of it and the boy has it all in his fur

any ideas on getting it off?
the worst has been cut off (rather evidently...)
there's just a few small bits left

mostly it's on his face at one side, obv, i don't want to cut it out of there
i've tried swarfega on it, but he decided he was going to try lick it off, so i couldn't leave it long enough for it to have any chance of working... anything else i could try?

Phone vets for advice i wouldn't put anything on fur as they lick alot and alot of stuff we use is poison to them including things like germolean and toothpaste

And creosote which can poison them just by being on their skin.

Try neat washing up liquid, rub in well & rinse thoroughly & make sure to avoid the eyes.

I'd try hair conditioner - and rinse well afterwards.

Definitely call the vet. If they lick it off you don't know what chemicals there are that could harm them.

if he'd manage to lick it off, he would have managed it by now

it's also a glue, not a tar, had my sister calling it a tar, but hey ho

he's had a bath today and a damn good brush wihich took it off his back, i'm going to take the plunge tomorrow and just cut it from his face fur.. it'll grow back... hopefully... ops:
