Hi
Is there a way to remove the folders function in Media?
It would be helpful if a folder was created after 2 episodes of the same series were recorded not for just one showing.
Is there a setting for this?

The short answer is, No.

I'm not quite sure what you are getting at, though. If you select a Series Recording, it creates the folder on first recording to put that, and all subsequent episodes in. If I understand you right, it would be confusing to put the first episode in the root of the media list, and then if you have not watched & deleted it by the time the 2nd episode records, it puts the second one into a folder and automagically moves the 1st one into it as well.

Rgds.

No, this is one of the most annoying things about the HDR, either we should have the option of turning them off or folders should be auto deleted when empty.

That's exactly how the Sky HD+ New EPG works when it puts entries into the "Planner".

Why not just delete the folder and its contents, albeit one item?

Hi Graham,

Funnily enough, it does let you delete a folder and all its contents with it. (Don't ask me how I know this )

Because theres lots more button presses to do it, you have to go into the edit mode rather than press ok, then delete and youre done.

IN the Media page (Root)

Move to programme
OK
Down
OK
Down
Down
OK
Left
OK

OR..

OPT+
Move to programme
OK
Red
Left
OK

So actually less button presses

Without folders
move to program
-ok
-play
program finishes
-ok
-down
-down
-delete
-left
-ok

8 clicks to watch and delete a program

with folder
-enter folder
-down
-ok
-play
program finishes
-up
-ok
-opt
-ok
-delete
-left
-ok

11 clicks and more navigating all over the remote. Non folder deleting only uses the up, down, left right and ok buttons.

Your post is just wrong.

You're forgetting the 3rd option down "Delete a file" (as long as there is no active recording) on the "Play Option" menu which is just brought up with "ok" then 2 x downs.... Why the -opt? Not needed. (Total is 4 button pushes at the end of the playback)

Eh? Thats deleting the file only and is quoted here:
Without folders
move to program
-ok
-play
program finishes
-ok
-down
-down
-delete
-left
-ok

You quoted deleting folders from the play menu when its impossible to do that on a folder.

That's because I was deleting a single file which is what your previous post seemed to be implying.... My mistake

So, is it just me that even after I've deleted any scheduled recordings for a programme it is still very hit and miss as to whether a folder deletes?

I go into the file manager. Highlight the folder, press the delete button and it disappears from the left hand list. Then come out of file manager and it is still there... Try to delete again and still it comes back. But then another day I'll go in and it will delete. Anyone know why?

Weird, it always deletes for me, are you sure you havent double pressed the confirmation button so it goes back to no.

Sometimes theres a delay where you think the press hasnt been registered and you press again.

Its a long shot but thats all I can think of.

I've seen a very few reports of this phenomenon, here and elsewhere.

It has been fixed by a variety of methods/tricks.

Try these (in order of least disruption to the user).

1. Transfer a recording into the offending folder (any recording from either the root or another folder). Go into File Manager and delete the folder. It should delete the folder & recording together; the folder should then not come back.

2. If 1.) does not work, your HDR's filesystem may have become corrupt, and you will start to see other signs such as duplicate recording names, recordings put into wrong folders, etc. Perform a Factory Reset & Disk Format. This will delete all of your current recordings stored on disk & also delete your scheduled Timers, as well as any optional settings you may have changed.

3. If 2.) does not work, then at least 2 cases have been reported where it took the procedure in 2.) to be performed twice to remove the corruption. i.e. Factory Reset -> Format -> Factory Reset -> Format.

What is the cause of filesystem corruption? Firstly, it's very rare. Possible causes could be switching the box off from the mains when it is deleting or recording, or a power surge/spike/cut.

HTH.

Rgds.

Well not really, it's from a different point of view, just after watching.
My Topfield has, after watching, List, Delete, Move, Confirm

With the amount of time it takes to delete an HD recording, I tend to delete a load at once.

My experience is that folders won't get deleted if all you have is empty folders.

If there is/would be an actual recording left remaining after the delete, then the folders will be removed.

imho, another reason why the automatic creation of folders for series links is just plain annoying. (along with having to change modes to delete folders, and the names being auto picked up from the programme name, which can change in the case of some series)

Exactly, for the TDF, Ive just gone through the week and set every program as an individual timer, thats less effort than deleting folders all the time.

Hardly very user friendly!

Humax need to ask 5-10 people on this forum what the problems are, how things could be improved etc. If things are only tested by the developers, the product never ends up intuitive as theyve spent so much time on it, they can go back to thinking how it should work logically, they just know how it works.

Thanks to all for suggestions. I think scarlet may have the solution - I tend to have a very empty system as I tend to keep fairly up to date with my recordings. That does mean that most times I do a folder tidy up there are no recordings on the system. Will try it out tonight to prove the theory.

Who would have known that keeping things tidy would be a problem...

This happens to me when I try to delete folders, bloody annoying.
Another annoying thing is when you mistakenly select a recorded program in Media and get the menu:

Play from start etc.

The only way you can get out of this menu is to start play then stop, to revert back to Media Menu.

Finally, recently on Boot up when going into Media Menu I find nothing there no list of my recordings or folders, I have to power off and reboot to retrieve.
