Recording failure
We had two channels scheduled to record at the same time last night. One of them would have been on ITV HD. I decided to watch something I recorded a few days ago. Half way through I was asked something and put it on pause. I then popped out for half an hour leaving it on pause.
When I got back the display had START RECORDING on it. This morning I heard some wailing downstairs. Whatever was scheduled hadn't recorded and someone was very upset. |

Would you have been recording Hope Springs on BBC HD, at the same time as the Trevor MacDonald Caribbean on ITV HD, (possibly followed by Kingdom on ITV HD)?
If you are recording BBC HD & ITV HD at the same time, then Timeshift (Pause) or recording on any other channel is not available, view-only of a very few others channels is available. I am guessing that you have missed a clash message whilst you were out, and it dumped one of the recordings, and you are in big trouble, because it's all your fault (always is) ![]() ![]() ![]() The logic if you miss the clash message appears to be those that started first are higher priority, so the last to start gets cancelled if you don't choose otherwise. I'm guessing that it treated your already Paused channel as a higher priority "recording". Edit : Unless someone else dealt with the clash message erroneously whilst you were out. How's your interrogation techniques?? Rgds. Les. Last edited by savvy : 06-07-2009 at 16:42. Reason: another possibility |

I had paused something that was already recorded so it doesn't quite fit your explanation. You are of course correct, when a programme is missed everything is my fault, from global warming, third world debt to swine flu.
![]() If you had no other schedules, around those times, that may have started early or finished late, causing a clash, then I can't offer anything else, sorry. Rgds. Les. |

Time for another toasting
Time to get my old hobby horse out again. I am convinced that ITV HD is resource hungry as far as the Humax HDR is concerned. The OP's problem is very similar to some difficulties I have had. Last time it happened to me i proposed a theory that ITV HD was considered to be two channels by the Humax, (ie SD in the background) and thus recording a second programme was condtional to it being on a "friendly" transponder. I wasn't quite shot down in flames for my theory, but it didn't cut much ice either! There must be some explanation for the problem

![]() ![]() I agree that there must be some explanation, but I'm not sure it's this. If I'm recording ITV HD, I'm invariably recording BBC HD as well, and this isn't a "friendly transponder" combination; there is very little you can even watch if you are recording those two. Last night, my box successfully recorded Hope Springs on BBC HD at the same time as Secret Caribbean on ITV HD, followed by Kingdom on ITV HD at the same time as Big Brother (I know !!!) on C4, which is another non-friendly combination. It's a nice theory, but my experiences don't support it unfortunately. I'm not shooting you down in flames, and I hope it wasn't me last time ![]() Rgds. Les. |

I'll try an repeat the scenario this week. It's finding a slot that she hasn't bagged for taping something that is the next problem.

if you have two people trying to schedule stuff, that both of you are not fully aware of, it gets very difficult to report the facts with any degree of accuracy. I have found stuff sneeked into the schedule, that only with extreme interrogation have I been able to get to the bottom of why something happened. If you do try to repeat this, take a careful note of your timers, and report exactly what you had set, and exactly what happened, when. I realise this is not easy, but it will help in diagnosing what happened. Rgds. Les. |
