Why is Rob Thomas not popular in the UK?

I can't believe his new album Cradlesong didn't even make the top 40 on Sunday.

This is seriously the best album I have heard in AGES. Haven't heard any of the new stuff on UK radio either, perhaps that's part of the problem!

Or Johnny Halliday ...

The guy from Matchbox 20??

That sort of stuff just doesn't seem to do anything at all over here which is strange as there is far worse around.

Hardly original or exciting just good songs well sung.

I've only remember two songs with him singing. I liked Push and he was ok on the Santana track.

I may have heard a few more of Matchbox 20s tracks but I can only think that they were a one hit wonder.

That's the one. I'm surprised HEART aren't all over him as his music is fairly mellow and inoffensive. Think Lonely No More is possibly still in rotation but that's about it.

I havent heard much of his new album yet, i mean to check it out tho. I really like him. I loved Matchbox 20 when they were around, & i really enjoyed his voice. I think it be nice if he had a bit more success over here, as Dodge said tho, hardly anyone over here seems to know who he is, which is a shame.

Because he doesn't publicise. I know who he is, but I've never seen him doing any promo over here.

he is more suited to the American music scene, and the American culture as a whole, than he is over here, which is a shame!! He is a great vocalist and songwriter!! I have both of his solo CDs since Cradlesong was released(I loved Cradlesong so much that I then got his first CD, Something To Be)!! I heard Her Diamonds on a US Radio Station that I listen to online and I was sold!! Apparently, Her Diamonds is about his wife, Marisol, who suffers from the motor-neurone disease Lupus!!

The song he did with Carlos Santana, Smooth, IMO is one of the best duets of all time!!!

Its a total shame that the UK doesnt really appreciate good quality rock music anymore!!!!

I put him in the same league as Dave Matthews. Great stuff.

I think that there must be something wrong with his record company, cause I don't get it either. I often think some companies are just really, really bad, or just plain lazy.

Same thing goes for Idina Menzel. Her album is fantastic, the women amazing, and has a huge worldwide following, especially in the US. Here, single had absolutely no (well, very very little) promotion, and just faded, along with the album.

I've only recently discovered Rob Thomas - (Cradlesong was paired with Leave This Town on Amazon as a possible combination purchase, but I had already ordered LTT, so I downloaded Cradlesong having given it the whole 30 second preview runthrough on ITunes - and you are right, it's fantastic) and I can only agree. I've said the same about Daughtry in another thread.

It's about time we had some decent rockers back in the UK. It's almost an underground scene these days - which is sad.

I thought his track with Santana was good.

When artists like Miley Cyrus, Lady GaGa and Metro Station can do a whirlwind of publicity in the UK off the back of one single, then it seems like it's fairly easy to make yourself known if you want to be. As posters above have said, if he's relatively un-heard of over here, it's because he and his 'people' are not trying hard enough (assuming he wants UK success that is).
