How to Stop a Dog Getting Aggravated at the TV
XPC465
06-07-2009
Hello there,

I am putting this post in, in the hope that someone, either professional or otherwise, can help me with this problem.
Our Westie dog, whom we love dearly, and have had since it was born, is now 3 years old. The only thing annoying about him, is the fact that when ANY animals appear on the TV, either in adverts or other programmes, he turns rather nasty, and attacks the tv screen, barking viciously as he does so. Due to the fact that our last 42" TV which was on a stand, and he could reach, was severely scratched in many places, we had a new 46" screen suspended from our ceiling. He cannot reach the new TV but he still continues to growl, bark viciously, and jump up at the wall, attempting to reach the TV. This is whenever ANY animals appear onscreen.
As I said we DO love him dearly, and I would NOT want to get too annoyed with him, as he is entitled to a happy life like the rest of us, but it must have happened to other peoples dogs, and I would appreciate any advice on the matter, which might stop him attacking the TV.
Many thanks to any advice given.

My Westie does the same thing. We've taken to silently standing in front of him and blocking his view, he eventually backs down, then we ask him to sit but we don't move until he goes quiet and sits. Sometimes its funny though cos he runs to the side of the tv to follow a running dog he can't figure out where its gone!!

I shake pennies in a tub at my little girl when she does this and say gentle as a code word so she knows im not happy with her. I rarely have to use it now although she is still facinated by the tv............

That's odd. My sister's dog is the most placid little dog in the world but she goes bananas when she sees animals on the telly. Even cartoon animals. And guess what, she's a Westie.
