Just thought it might be good to see how the programme was being received outside of our own little bubble, and how that follows (or not) through the week.

So if you spot a review online (or have written your own?) post a link here.

To start things off, here's ones from The Guardian and The Independent:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/20...last-nights-tv

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...1-1734278.html

Media Guardian should have the overnights later this morning.

As an aside, and not at all scientific, but I note there is very little discussion of the opposition programmes here on DS.

Off the Telly review:

And their rather sour ratings prediction (which no-one else commenting agrees with)

And the Behind the Sofa reviews of last night's instalment:

Kinda agree too - it's still Torchwood but it does feel suitably defanged.

Sounds good enough for a Monday night at the start of summer? No? Yes?

I'd say good, and presume it won the slot.

Of course it's episode one, and the day with the least opposition, so the key thing now is to consolidate or improve on that figure.

I would have said good, not outstanding (that would be 7.5/8million, the sort of figures that New Tricks gets in the same timeslot for example). But I think that it's ahead of previous TW series openers, so no bad news as, with those figures, it could quite easily slip back onto BBC2.

Of course, those will be the overnights, with something of this naure the recorded viewings will be interesting.

Share was 25-26%

Yes it won the slot. ITV got around 4.1m.

25% is a very good audience share as well. And as pointed out in the Ratings thread, it looks like that figure does not include HD viewings.
itv sucks

Marvellous result for the opening night. With HD, BBC3 repeat, time shift and iplayer figures to come, TW has a good chance of continuing.

Pretty decent figures, I predicted 5.8 so not far off. i would expect a small drop off tomorrow, with a riase again at the end of the week. Overall I'd predict an average of around 5.5 million.

Very solid indeed for this time of year!

Apparently on a par with Ashes to Ashes ratings-wise

Yes, we've got the BBC1 figures, the HD figures, the pvr figures, the BBC3 repeat figures and then iplayer figures! Loads of figures really. I know a lot of people on here were saying they had work or holidays so the final figures should be really good then I'd imagine.

And to be honest, I wouldn't cry if it did go back onto BBC2. It feels more like a BBC2 show to me for some reason.

I think this is about what BBC1 would have been expecting for it, so I think a permentant move to BBC1 may well be on the cards, for better or worse.

I would love it if they gave it a winter 2010 run next year though.

To compare:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009...bbc-tv-ratings

These are the figures for 22 June (2 weeks ago - no prizes for guessing why I'm not using last Monday):

"
ITV1 won the 9pm hour with a Real Crime documentary on the Rachel Nickell case pulling in 4.1 million and a 19% share, while BBC1's drama repeat Waking the Dead claimed 3.5 million and a 16% share in the same slot.
BBC2's The Supersizers Eat ... Medieval gained 2 million and a 9% share in the 9pm hour, while Five's Build a New Life in the Country attracted 1.3 million and a 6% share.
Channel 4's The World's Greatest Musical Prodigies picked up 900,000 and a 4% share in the 9pm hour, with a further 63,000 on Channel 4 +1."

yeah, good to put in in context. for this time of year, with this sort of weather, it's a really good result!

Congrats to the TW team for pulling it off!

Occupation - the 3 part drama that was on a few weeks ago in the same slot - started with around 4.5 million and dropped to about 3.5 million by the final episode. So episode 1 of Torchwood has rated better than the like-for-like drama Occupation so far.

And who knows how many more people will watch episode 1 today via Iplayer etc

Even before adding in BBC HD and BBC Three screenings it's looking like it drew in many people who wouldn't otherwise be watching TV at that time on a Monday night anyway - I think a similar thing happens when "Doctor Who" is on Saturdays.

Saying that I know one person who perversely still decided he was watching his "War Games" DVD all the way through instead of catching episode one. He now appears to be regretting that somewhat though.

You would thought the BBC would get it's own facts right...
First the pic from last season, and the last line about it's highest BBC3 ratings being under 1m, more like 2.5m!
