That is brilliant....with the highest being 6.7....higher than the lowest of what DW has ever got....brilliant stuff.....

what are the positions of TW on the actual chart of the week....

Looking at the individual channel lists.

It was 4th - 7th (EE 1st - 3rd) plus 9th on BBC1.

The only stuff on other channels to beat them were 5 episodes of Corrie, two Emmerdale (though only one beat all 5 TWs) and Top Gear.

So the top 10 would be the soaps plus Top Gear and TW would be 11th - 14th and (I think 17th).

Though if you just count each show once, it would make the top 5.

Those are indeed brilliant figures. Well done to the TW team.

offically only the top rated programme is counted per week, iirc, to prevent the soaps being dispropertionately represented.

anyway, very impressive time shift, more than I had predicted.

I think the time shift is something like as follows for each day:

day 1 - +570,000
day 2 - + 540,000
day 3 - +500,000
day 4 - + 560,000
day 5 - +780,000

No surprise the final day had the biggest time shift...I did at least predict that correctly.

what strikes me most is how consistant the figures are across the week....

day 1 - 6.47
day 2 - 6.14
day 3 - 6.4
day 4 - 6.76
day 5 - 6.58

Barely any drop off at any point, even the dip for day two is smaller than one would expect.

Proof positive that the audience were gripped by it from, if you'll excuse the pun, day one...

It would be really interesting to find out the iPlayer figures as well! I know there was a report somewhere that had some of the numbers but it had to be incomplete because it was posted before the show went "off the radar".

I think they do get released eventually, I would imagine they will be excellent, because at one point all five days were in the top 10!

Another small factor (very small one mind) that might have been overlooked as well - the complete series became available to buy on the following Monday, so that might have also affected the final figures, especially later in the week (people who had yet to catch up with the later episodes deciding to buy the DVD/blu-ray instead).

It would also be interesting to know the sales figures for that week.

Not the highest, no. The highest was for the Andy Murray QF at wimbledon, over 220,000.

POTD had something like 200,000 or there abouts with it's final figures.

The iPlayer figures will be good I think - With me I didn't manage to watch any of the eps on tv - all were watched on iPlayer later in the evening.

Great work by all involved!

Oh okay....still not far behind the best of the best ratings that BBC HD has had.....so TW still did do brilliantly.....

Yes, in many ways the over night viewing figures these days are diminishing in importance, it is the total reach, which includes the repeats, recordings and iplayer that matters really.

I think the over nights tend to be an indicator on the popularity of a show rather than the definitive figures these days.

It did really well. It actually isn't far off of DW's success really, when one factors in the time slot and smaller target audience.

I think they would have been delighted with an average of 5.5 million, so they have gone well beyond that.

Was reading in an interview that RTD has said he is most proud of how COE has done than anything else he has worked on in his DW era, so that tells you something...

First night's viewing figures in the US were 1.4 million on BBC America, the highest in BBC America's history:
