I not sure Torchwood is working without Tosh and Owen, Lanto is not a strong part of the series and I find him boring. also they have changed Gwen character with her over the top welsh hysterics.
I was finding stretching it over 5 nights, has lost the fast action that needed with this sort of series.

Why do producers have to mess with series.

Never liked Tosh anyway but Owen was more likeable in series 2. I wish they'd killed off Lanto instead of Owen.

The problem is that actors eventually want to move on to other things. (ie Bill Sykes in the west end)
Short of having them disappear without explanation you have to write them out. Better do it in an interesting and suspenseful way.

I miss Tosh and Owen but if the series is renewed hopefully we'll get some interesting new characters.

It's Ianto, not Lanto.

Few fans have missed Owen and Tosh since the first episode of COE has aired and I agree with them. I've never been a fan of Gwen's character but Eve Myles is definately one of the strongest actors on the show, even if she over-does it sometimes. And do bear in mind that because Ianto and Tosh were pushed to the side for most of series 1 and 2, their characters were never really given the chance to develop. With the shortened team size, it gves both Ianto AND Rhys a chance to develop.

I love Ianto (I know Dgem-hands off) but I just can't 'gel' with Gwen. She seriously does my head in. I miss Tosh-I think so much more could have been done with her character. Owen I think had run his course.

That's the Whoniverse I suppose, people die, move on, get replaced. Sad, sometimes, but true. I just go with the flow.

That be fine, if they had been replaced with 2 other strong actors, at the moment it all a bit bland

Give it a chance, there's only been one episode I am missing them both terribly but shows move on and I thoroughly enjoyed Day One last night.

Tosh was the only character I actually really engaged with. I don't feel (and have never felt) any kind of emotion for the other characters and I couldn't really care less whether they died or not.

Still, it's fun action.

I expected to miss them much more than I did

I found I got so into the episode last night that I didn't really notice they weren't there.

I've always thought Ianto was a seriously weak character. First of all, the actor only has like, 2 facial expressions. That just doesn't do it for me. They killed off the wrong person..Owen should still be there imo.

I agree with you - both Owen and Tosh were far better characters than Ianto, he always annoys me lots.

I didn't really notice their abscence much, tbh. Maybe because TSE and JE coming in between helped me get use to them not being there.

I was sad at there departure but life goes on. I thought Gwen touching their photo and saying morning was a nice touch.

Ianto is lovely, tbh, I like him better than the other characters bar Jack. He had some cracking one liners in the last series...

Tosh was the only character I related to and engaged with, so I miss her. Thought she had potential for more character/story development too, especially when they revealed her background and recruitment into Torchwood.

I didn't like Owen, but thought he was one of the most interesting character with unpredictable relationships with everyone in the team. The new episode felt a little flat without him when it came to the team and how they interacted, but to be fair it has only be one episode. He was doomed when they killed him first time around though, TBTP boxed themselves into the corner with that one and had no-where else they could go.

I didn't miss them hugely, but I loved Tosh and Owen and thought Owen in particular was interesting - I loved and miss his sense of humour and cynicism.

I suppose we should be grateful to have 3 of the original cast left. In the season 2 episode Fragments , the TW team leader was shown after "going postal", due to the pressures of the job on Millennium Eve and killing himself and the others. Apart from Jack who was out of the hub at the time.

i do miss tosh and owen, but a series like torchwood has to move on, and i dont think children of earth should be judged on that. I thought it was epic, and definitely had a real factor feel to it last night, i almost forgot it was doctor who land. a good, strong, amazing start, although i liked that new doctor, shame they had to kill him

Owen and Tosh are missed, but certainly weren't the main part of the show.

I was never much of a fan of Owen- he was an interesting character, and a realistic horrible slimy little so and so for much of the time, but the attempt to turn him into someone more sympathetic didn't really work for me, and after his death and return, I don't think any more could really be done with the character.

Tosh certainly had more potential, and in many ways I'd rather have seen her stay and Gwen killed off- though if Gwen died Rhys would no longer have a part in the show, and I think it would be poorer without him. Rhys is a lovely character and surely deserves better than Gwen though!

I really like Ianto and hope he survives this series- he didn't feature much in series 1 (certain episodes have been forcibly wiped from my memory!) but I thought he was great in series 2, loved the dry wit and one liners. He needs to keep those in this series. I don't mind the idea that he doesn't usually go for men but still fell for Jack- after all, people are far more complicated than simply saying they fall in one category or another. I do worry that Jack will break Ianto's heart though!

Torchwood still resolves primarily around Jack and I'd like to see that change- he's an interesting character, but since I enjoy Torchwood and would like it to run for a long time, if that were to happen sooner or later Jack would have to be written out (not necessarily killed off, but sent away somewhere else for a while, maybe returning after a break of a few years claiming he's lived 3000 years off time travelling while everyone else has only lived 2, or brought back in a far future set spinoff?)- the character is ageless, but the actor is not. So the rest of the cast need to be strong enough to carry the show. Right now I'm not sure they are, but there's certainly room for some new characters.

Actually I think the show revolves around Gwen just as much as Jack, if not more so. She officially had more screentime than Jack in series 1.

I think an essemble of 5 - for a British length series rather than an American length series - is too many, especially when one or two of the characters are really pushed aside like Ianto and Tosh. It should be 4 at the most.

i like the dynamic of the 3 person team - with someone like Rhys being there but not in a full time capacity
