I totally agree. I started watching from the beginning but when they axed one of the main families back in 1999, its just gone down hill since then.
They have no original characters when its only been running for 6-7 years and they've changed sets completely featuring none of the original locations. Boring  |

Don't think so, Crossroads has had two relaunches in the 40 years since it started. How many has Family Affairs had?

I'm always willing to give FA a chance though because it has been so good in the past, it's just a shame that some of the best earlier characters had to be killed off rather than written out (Mel and Holly for example!).
The one good thing recently has been Jake/Josh (I can't remember which one he was in FA and which one in Night and Day) |

The show also stuck to being about families, but they just added more than one and there also wasn't a break in broadcasting the show. Therefore, Family Affairs has never been relaunched.

At the moment he is not scheduled to come back, but I hope that he eventually does. |

I'm not a fan of Family Affairs simply 'cos I've never had time to watch it properly although I do think the theme tune and the opening credits are great. |

I have watched it a few times but think that it is terrible.
The way Five is going, they should really get rid of it as I personally feel it lets the channel down. You watch Home and Away which is normally brilliant, and then that comes on and it doesn't quite go together. Five should make a new soap. Something different, like Crossroads. Family Affairs is just too much of a rip-off of EastEnders. |

It was good during the Yasmin Josh Siobhan love triangle too, I just hate how Pete always got away with everything - the same happened with him and Maria.. I'm nostalgic for the early days now - if they ever do cancel the show I'd love to see the first few years from the beginning again..

I agree that the show lost its way for a while when Brian Park took over, killing over the Hart Family etc, but i'd say recently the show is definetly back on form,
the new characters are very likeable and they have got some killer storylines at the moment, I think people need to forget about what channel its on when they think about the program (though as a whole I do think that is improving too) actually WATCH the show and give it a fair chance. |

It has been much better since the gay guy and his wife moved in, as well as the arrival of Chrissy and family. Don't know about the new black family though.
Yasmin could go as she has been in the show for ages and is sorta boring. Geri is a good character though. They could introduce a new Asian family though, as some of the houses are unoccupied. They did get rid of about 10 characters in two/three months, but now it is really getting good. |

Every soap will get slated by people who don't watch it on a regular basis. I've been there since the start, and it's still better than most of the other soaps on. But hey, that's my opinion!
By the way, latest figures for the first week of January show that it's getting 1.9 million viewers, and is five's second highest rated show. So don't expect an axe anytime soon... And there is still one original character left - Pete - he was just never in the first set of opening credits. matt888uk ************ |

why would any of you waste your time moaning about a soap which you obviously don't watch! Because if Family Affairs is so bad you wouldn't dream of watching it would you?
Five aren't going to axe Family Affairs like someone else said its there 2nd highest rated programme and the only home made soap they have. 1.9m really isn't bad at all for five. |

It's a shame they scrapped the sunday omnibus really, I just don't get home early enough every day to see it these days so can't ever really get deeply into story lines. Why did they get rid of the omnibus? I used to love Sunday's because of that.
