An update would be nice?
It feels the summer is over, which means that it is time for a firmware update for the HDR.
![]() Is there any news with regards to the progress of the development/testing of the new firmware? Has a new target date been confirmed? Wouter (anxiously waiting for 8 months since v1.02). |

Seconded.. Humax giving updates on here is a good thing, and keeps us all in the loop. Would be good to find out what is going on over there..

I was thinking more about comparison to other manufacturers, Apple, MS etc. Mind you though, now I think about it, whilst they don't give progress reports, they are reasonably regular. My 5 year old iPod got one recently..

Hopefully it shouldn't take 5 years

Different to 'soon' though, and as that was posted 3 Weeks ago, did we really need another thread.
Is there a shortage of them? |

Why?
Is there a shortage of them? If Humax didn't get this feedback, they could possibly decide no longer to support a firmware update due to an apparently lack of interest. Just avoiding this scenario

indeed, we don't want to make Humax think we don't care about the box, as we are still looking forward to our first fix.

![]() They have explained the situation, and that updates will be released WHEN THEY ARE READY!. Making dozens of threads on here whinging about it isn't going to help or make it any faster. Going back the to 9200, Humax are very slow on releasing updates - be patient, if you're not happy, then take it back for a refund. |

Completely the opposite - Humax hardly ever post here any more, because when they do all they get is abuse.

Address the problems as one issue, then add features (iplayer) as a separate issue. It's the niggles with the unit that most people are annoyed with, not the lack of iplayer. |

Until the update turns up we will never know. Maybe they are still bug testing the update before release. Depending on the complexitely it may be taking longer to sort out.

Nigel, I haven't noticed much abuse of bob_cat at all. Most people are very pleased to get the limited information we get here. They have explained the situation, and that updates will be released WHEN THEY ARE READY!. Ahhh......and when will that be? remind me - March, April, May June or now the end of the Summer..possibly... Making dozens of threads on here whinging about it isn't going to help or make it any faster. Going back the to 9200, Humax are very slow on releasing updates - be patient, if you're not happy, then take it back for a refund. ..that old standby "take it back!", "take it back!" - most people won't take it back as it is effectively the only product on the market and it works reasonably well at it's primary function most of the time. As someone else said - it's the sum of the "niggles" that annoy many people - the user interface and delete functionality for example and the way it could be really improved immensely with a decent upgrade fixing the "myriad" of bugs in design and usage. I really get annoyed when you buy software or hardware and then have to wait for the manufacturer to produce a series of hotfixes/service packs/firmware updates, etc, etc, just to get it to do what it should of done in the first place.
Do these products not have any QA in place? This is just not a dig at Humax. I do understand that there are certain problems that might only come out when units are out and about in the wild, but l think the Humax Freesat+ PVR has been released before the firmware was ready. If only everything was like Ronseal "Does exactly what it says on the tin"

Hmm, I do love the pasion on these forums.. It's great to have.
And here is exactly the right place to moan and complain about how we feel about the frequency of updates. 20 years ago, companies did what they liked and we lumped it. Maybe "thats life" or watchdog got involved a bit on big things, but not much else. Nowadays we don't have to write stroppy letters, we can discuss things in places like this. I'm sure companies would much prefer to hear our rantings here, and see our passion for their products, and have a chioce. They can listen, and make changes, or us fickle consumers will go somewhere else. I came to Humax after an appalling experience with a Sagem Freeview box. They didn't listen at all. The point is, nobody here is being nasty, just airing opinions that any sensible marketing department nowadays will read, assess how they think this refects all users, and depending on how arragont the company is, do something about it. In the current economic climate committing Engineering resource to things is a fine balance between securing extra revenue from new and exciting prodcuts, and keeping your existing customers happy. And I'm sure like all companies, Humax are feeling the pinch right now. I personally would like to thank Bobcat for facing all of us and providing any information, even though sometimes it's not exaclty what we want to here. Sorry, rant over, back to middle England.. Let the jonnykid slaying begin.. |
