Glad to hear it's working for you now.

I'm going to have to change the text in my 'services' section (see left), if it doesn't start crashing again soon

Mine gets turned to power saving sby every night and apart from one well documented lock up during which the stb continued to record (all night as it happens) no problems at all since last November. Can't say I noticed any firmware updates though ”

The HDR needs a daily reboot, or it suffers a memory leak and eventually starts dropping frames, then locks-up.

When the automatic power off stops working, go into the set-up and set the on/off times to same and "OK" them. This seems to restore the auto power off again.

Hopefully, these bugs can be fixed but we need this work-around until then.
IMHO a small price to pay for a basically good box.”

Just wondering how you guys have got on since posting here?

Since I reset my box back to factory defaults, it's behaved itself really well, and has been super stable.

Must say that I have the same problem with my box, and have also assumed that it's a memory leak

Memory leak does make some sense given the various people's experiences.
It might only be on taking certain actions. Some people have referred to dropped frames, suggesting that the box is struggling. It seems to cope ok with recording HD and another SD at the same time and playing HD, without problems, so I don't think the hardware is under spec.
I noticed that my old Pace Twins tended to crash when it was playing recordings where the reception quality was poor. It's often the case that leaks occur the most in exceptional conditions rather than 100% normal use. Perhaps when interference or poor signal drops frames, when channels go off-air which it is left to 'play', when there is a conflict and so on. As someone said, as memory gets reduced you might expect more performance problems, more dropped frames and the whole thing could positively feedback to the point of a lock-up.

I am one of those who doesn't experience any problem at all with freezes. I use the remote to put the box into standby at the end of the evening. I only turn it on when I want it. If I'm watching Freeview on the TV's internal turner I sometimes, but not always turn off the Humax.

I have been a bit wary of leaving it on the EPG or even on a TV channel when getting close to a scheduled recording. I do that because we only have one cable pulled round the house and looped into both tuners, so I don't want to cause a conflict by watching a channel that is on a different quadrant to the scheduled recording. That's a faff, but its our fault for not upgrading the LNB and running two or more new cables round. Before going to standby I also tend to leave it on BBC HD or BBC1 as they are 24hr.

I'm not saying that "turning off" is a magic solution, but it seems to work for me. .....Perhaps the quality of the incoming RF feed is having an effect on the viewing or background EPG operations.

It's a shame we are left to speculate. Its mostly to try to help those who have a bit of a shitty time to have a better experience.

I've got a few things that I'd like Bob to feedback to TPTB in Humax.

1) Don't let such long periods go between updates, it really upsets users who have come to expect the brand to deliver good service and updates.
2) Don't let such such a long time go by because it makes it impossible to branch the code to do bug releases separate from feature releases. So many changes go into projects that it becomes impossible to untangle the dependencies.
3) Please get some mechanism in place to allow the acknowledgement of issues with workarounds and resolutions posted hosted on your own site.
4) In the future please get some interim software out for downloading if not over air. It benefits the customer, the QA process and the Humax reputation.

Finally, I wonder if Humax really intended to get into this position - I suspect they found themselves around Easter-time with bug-fixed code which was dependant on re-written sections for new features as well as the IPTV stuff. None of that was allowed for release probably and was pending services from the likes of the BBC. Now they've got software which is waiting for finalisation of a service which more than a few of their customers are probably unconcerned by.

I often record 2 HD channels and view a HD recording at the same time with no problems.
