I'm going to be unconventional and say BB5.

It is NOT the best Big Brother, though... Somehow didn't quite come together all that well.

Big Brother 3 has the best cast of any reality show ever. Period. It has absolutely everything.

Lisa - really likeable, level headed and good looking.
Danielle - devious, but also motherly and really funny.
Jason - pure gold, not preachy like many people similar him may be, and up for anything
Amy - the spoilt drunken southern belle, who actually has a heart of gold underneath the bravado
Marcellas - the diva.
Roddy - the smart one who has just a hint of super villain underneath it
Gerry - the underdog who is nothing like the others
Chiara - slightly bitchy, but bold, strong minded, completely shameless, and underneath it all insecure
Josh - the stereotypical jackass with a weakness (his girlfriend)
Eric - the manly hunk
Tonya - slightly white-trash eviction fodder, but has potential
Lori - the smalltown naive mum whos a bit out of her depth

12 completely unique and individual houseguests with nothing in common whatsoever. They all have different backgrounds, personalities, strengths and weaknesses, and every single one has a purpose. Whoever cast Season 3 deserved a medal.

Had a few duds though. I don't think Lori, Tonya, Eric, Gerry, even Lisa were very well-cast or memorable.

Ofcourse this is ALL my personal opinion and I know BB3 is rated highly, but others like Chiara, Roddy, Josh I didnt find all that interesting to watch either. Personally I think this series was SAVED by the trio of Daniele, Amy, Marcellas who were always compelling and kept things interesting the whole way through. Even though I couldnt STAND Marcellas most of the time.

Kyle has said pretty much everything I wanted to say. BB3 was an awesome cast, very entertaining.

BB2 had a pretty good cast too; Will, Shannon, Krista, Nicole, Kent, Bunky, Monica.

Not sure about favourites, but I've been thinking a lot about BB9 lately and though the series itself was nothing wonderful (o hai there, stupid twist #51), the cast mix was lively, sometimes offensive, often alarming but completely and compulsively watchable.* We may never have anything like it again.

*the final week was shit, I admit. They're never action packed, but Flopsweats Ryan and Adam were so dim and dull that I'm convinced production took Class B drugs to cope.

Its a bit hard to say about Lori and Tonya because they werent in there very long, but they were nothing like anyone else their year, and played their parts well considering they left quickly. I think Lori was a great housemate, though really had no chance whatsoever. "Who Said It! Who'sa Spokesperson!"

Eric was a bit dull, but at the end of the day, he was cast as the house hunk, and I think he was quite a good choice. I personally though Gerry was a great houseguest too. Lisa probably could have not been there and it wouldnt have changed the dynamics much, but its always nice to have the down to earth nice girl option, and she was good looking.

Say what you like about Chiara, but I think she was an absolute reality TV dream. Not particularly likeable, but totally shameless, and great fun until it all started going wrong for her. Josh was a great villain too. Roddy had a lot going for him too, but then this is all just my opinion.

I agree that the trio of Danielle, Amy and Marcellas were the stars, but the others were all great as a backing cast too.

What truely set it apart in my opinion is how the housemates were so diverse. Nobody was anything like each other. Compare that to our BB right now - Karly and Sophie are identical, and have been done in every series for years. Kris is Dale, who was previously Sezer, and so on.

I hated the majority of the BB4 houseguests.. The only one who I think I can truely say I liked at the end of it was Michelle, and she was evicted after a week or two

To me the BB2 cast was extraordinarily BAD, and if it wasn't for Dr Will the show might have been dead in the water.

BB4, I think the main cast were quite strong (one of the strongest) even if not massively likeable. It was the ex's which brought that season down for me.

BB10 hands down.

Keesha's birthday party showed exactly what was right with the casting.

I'm going to go with Season 6. You had half of the house that were the underdogs, fun, likable people. Then you had the other half that you just loved to hate.

Come on, that cast provided lots of great moments.

The Shannon and Hardy arguments, resulting in her using his toothbrush to clean the toilet.

The Shannon and Autumn arguments where she threw the bag of potato chips on her bed.

The Kent and Bunky relationship.

That huge argument between Kent and Hardy where Kent exposed alliances and whatnot.

Justin getting kicked out over the knife incident.

Will charming Shannon.

Boogie and Krista showmance.

Will's gameplay.

Nicole's gameplay.

Monica providing lots of laughs. And also that massive argument with Kent.

Hardy going from "America's fave" to one of the most disliked housemates. Dying his hair black and becoming evil.

Will and Nicole's odd relationship.

I thought it was a great cast.

Big Brother 10...I can remember all the housemates being really entertaining, or at least a good addition to the house. No one faded into the background. It was probably my favourite series actually.

I agree and disagree. They had some of them spot on - Alison, Dana and David were made for reality TV, and on paper Jack looked amazing. Jun and Nathan alright too, though unoriginal but other than that they were all pretty much non-entities. Erika was essentially filler in her season, and was an awful "allstar" choice, and the ex's were pretty much all there to create a twist for their far more entertaining partners. (I mean to say, Justin was there for Alison, Amanda for Scott etc)

They all totally went out in the wrong order too, leaving Alison to carry the show about as soon as Nathan went.

I agree that last year had a great cast too, especially after the two previous series which had really bad casts. Some of the housemates were generic BB (Keesha the sweet blonde, Jessie to athletic arse) but they turned out to be pretty good housemates. Dan and Libra were impressive bits of casting, because they both brought a lot more than you may have expected at the start (Dan, the master gamer, and Libra having more fire in her than I ever expected) and Renny was a great choice. There was no obvious filler in the lineup, though essentially, Steven and Angie became filler in the game. It was deffinatly 20 steps up from 8+9 thats for sure!

If Erika was the only filler from the non-exs. I don't think she was that much of a filler, she was a game-player and had her alliance with Jack the whole way through. She wasn't a floater in BB4. I think she was more popular and was actually a fan-favourite but Allstars has damaged her reputation quite a lot.

I think you are right that Ali had to carry the show after Nate went, but I think a big reason for this was the 'Three Stooges' and they seemed to dominate everything after this point. If BB4 had chosen five other random strangers rather than the ex's like they did in BB2/BB3 I think it could have been an AMAZING series - best ever actually.

Likewise its the gimmicks in BB5 (the twins, Cowboy) and BB6 (secret partners) which drag a season down. Although BB6 worked in spite of this, although it did mean a lot of crap HM's like Beau, Jennifer, Ashlea, Michael to partner up with the better players...

Erika and Jack probably had the most pointless alliance ever though. Even though they were techincally "the other side of the house" for the ex's, they really did a whole lot of nothing. I mean, they won one HoH between them. Though Erika wasnt a floater in her season, she really didnt do that much at all. I agree that Erika was popular though - she has easily the highest approval rating if you look at the ancient CBS BB4 site. But its like Diane said right at the start of allstars "Erika didnt really do a lot of anything in her season." A classic case of all talk no action if you ask me. The again, that beats her Allstars showing of no talk no action Still she did well to get where she did both years. Considering the Allstars are supposedly the best players, the only player to have performed stronger than her over two seasons is Will (1st and 4th) which narrowly beats Erika (2nd and 4th) and she ties with Janelle (3rd and 3rd) though I think as Erika got to the final, she beats her on a tie break

I have to agree about the gimmicks. Generally, the BBUS casts have been very good IMO. It's just the houseguests cast out of neccessity that have really let them down, so I'm glad we're past the twisty cast stage, where they know eachother and now back to strangers (although who knows with this mystery houseguest).

Whilst some of these concepts were good for the shock factor, the people chosen out of neccessity were pretty poot in general.

The ex-factor was a shocking and quite good concept on it's own, and the way in which the houseguests dealt with the twist carried the series IMO. But it would've helped to have better ex's or just strangers, as without the twist, it still could've been a brilliant season IMO, although I'm probably one of the few who did enjoy it.

BB5 didn't play out all that well IMO anyway, and that was partly because the twin twist sort of buggered up the season. They could've got away with cutting out one of the twins, cutting Cowboy and having just 12 people. In concept, the season could've played out much better. I don't think Drew would've won that way.

The BB6 twist was genius IMO and the season turned out to be as well. There were however some pretty poor choices out of neccessity though, like Beau, although in this season I don't mind either way, as I think if we had complete strangers it definetely wouldn't have played out the way it did.

BB7 was an exception duie to being All Stars. Although the only houseguest cast out of neccessity (Boogie) was a big mistake. There were a few other pooe choices, though I have a soft spot for this season.

BB8 had poor choices in terms of Joe and Carole IMO. Both Dick and Daniele were good choices though, although not particularly pleasent. I would've loved to see this season played out how it would without AP and then with complete strangers, possibly cutting out Daniele, Carole and Joe and sticking someone else in. Dick sure wouldn't have won either.

BB9 had pretty horrible people anyway. Some really vile people, like Josh and Chelsia. I don't think cutting back on the couples could've really saved this season, although I would like to see it played out just as individuals.

The BB2, BB3 and BB10 casts have all been very strong, so it seems they get the best casts when casting strangers and not having to pick people through circumstances or twists.

I've already discussed the BB3, 4 and 10 casts, but i'll give my views on the others. Im enjoying discussing BBUS atm while its busy in this forum, because for all my attempts, none of my friends will watch with me.

I think BB2 had a really strong cast, though they did bugger up with that Justin guy who clearly wasnt stable, and was a real risk to his fellow houseguests. The others were all worthwhile, and I think they were lucky that the best ones stayed till the end. (Will, Nicole and Monica) I dont think the cast was particularly as strong as BB3's, but they were all worthwhile.

I think the BB3 cast was flawless as I said in another post
I made my BB4 views clear too - some good, some atrocious

I think BB5 didnt have the strongest of casts, and thats because they picked a few to many people who didnt play the game. The only real awesome bits of casting they did were Marvin and Nakomis in my opinion. Diane was a wicked player, but on paper doesnt seem that interesting. Holly and Jase were great for the freakshow aspect, but not realyl for playing the game. I personally really liked Adria/Natalie when they were one, but allowing them both to play was a huge mistake. The others were all generally disapointing. Drew, Scott and Lori were all there purely because they were good looking, and of the three, Lori was ironically the only one who seemed like she could develop into a decent player had she not taken the money (which I think was the wisest move for her) Cowboy was simply an atrocious player, and had absolutely no place in the jury house, let alone the final 2. Karen (a favourite of mine) was pleasent and cool, but didnt do anything, and had nothing really that interesting about her and wouldnt have been missed much. I liked Will too, but he was just the token gay guy to be honest. Oh and that Mike guy.. pure filler.

Big Brother 6 had a lot of filler, but then, thats what you get when your only really casting half a show, and then taking the other half to let the good ones stay. They clearly had no real interest in Ashlea, Michael, Sarah, Rachel or Beau, who were clearly there for their partners to play. (Janelle, Kaysar, James, Howie and Ivette) Ironically, the only pair who I think were both cast on merit were Maggie and Eric, who both on paper look strong. I dont think Jennifer or April should have been in there really. But then again, credit to them, because the 5 I put in brackets and Maggie were all really strong. (Ivette for TV value more than gameplay) I just think they could have done without the twist which technically made the cast "we want you +1"

I cant actually fault them on Allstars, because they got every essential housemate available to them in there. (Janelle, Will, Danielle, Alison and Marcellas in my opinion were the 5 that 10000% needed to be in there) Of course it would have been better had Amy and Jason repleaced Erika and Mike, but ultimately, they could hardly force them back in. Mind you, I think it was a travesty that Erika was even a candidate, especially when Monica was left on the sidelines, and Jun missed out alltogether. Boogie was nowhere near Allstar standard in his season, so its a shame they put him in. I heard it was cause Will insisted he would only sign up if Boogie could play, but really, Boogie had no place being there (though he did play well, so credit to him) The only other one I can find fault with is George, though i can understand why they felt the need to represent Season 1. Jase probably could have been done without, but due to the lack of Marvin and Jason, there were no males who i'd rather have seen play.

Big Brother 8 was awful awful awful. I can see why they cast Dick, and i can see why they cast Jen, but other than that they were all easily replaceable. There was nothing special or unique about any of them in my opinion.

Same for BB9, who were all pretty much bland and awful. They probably lucked into finding James, who wasnt really that good anyway, and Natalie was great to watch, though not special by any means. I think given a better series, the likes of Ryan or even Allison could have proven their worth, but it was clear from the start that BB9 was a rush job.

So yes, thats my (very long) views

The BB9 cast is weird. It could almost have worked since the cast had a lot of life about them, but it seemed more like Celebrity Love Island for the first half, and I think most of them were there for the camera-time rather than actually being serious about playing the game. Many of them seemed like they were auditioning for a soap-opera or something.

Kyle123's post is precisely why the All-Star format will never be revisited again, in my opinion. The All-Star cast were essentially brats behind the scene, especially Will and Boogie. There was far too much "allow this for me or I walk" pageantry from Will. And the producers (ie Big Brother) cow towed to his every whim. From what I watched Will and Boogie attempted to dictate the "storyline" and were very successful. Even to convincing Erika and Janelle to go along with it. That season wasn't very entertaining when you size it all up.

If there is one thing the US BB lacks is a spine to dish out punishment. If Will or Boogie tried their crap in Australia they'd be sleeping in the Kombi out back for years. And those two would have quit because they couldn't accept the humiliation. That much is fact!

CBS are obsessed with ex-contestants, hence them putting one back in this years season and the upcoming Survivor: Heroes v Villains.

There will definitely be another Big Brother All-Stars in some shape or form.
