I loved torchwood takes on the real hustle. If only Jess Clemant decided to come in to give them some tips.

The main reason this episode drops to good is that the major twist that Jack was involved in whatever happened in 1965 was more or less obvious from the start. Twists are good. Twists that are sign posted before the episodes even started less so.

I'm glad that the american/unit (can't remember) guy raised the issue of contact with Aliens supposed to be on neutral soil similar to the American president with the tochlaphane (spelling god knows)

So far for me the mini series seems to be

Part 1 : slow intro to plot and characters
Part 2 : fast paced action packed thriller
Part 3 : slower paced more exposition episode

Which to me suggests part four will be breakneck paced again and part five will be slow paced lets try and wrap everything up sharpish

But I'm still loving the mini series ”

Yeah, I really was expecting a line such as "Remember what happened last time a British Prime Minister set up a First Contact situation"

[/LIST]They said it was Storage space used by TW1 but it had been abandoned in the 1990's (so long before Canary Wharf was destroyed).

Yeah, Jack being there in 1965 was something I'd worked out in Day One.

Only people old enough to be adults in positions of responsibility in 1965 could have been part of the deal with the 456. These age categories might be wrong if some people are older or younger than they appear to be (alien tech), or the 456 have been in contact with some people since 1965 and there's something else hidden going on.

Another thought: are the things in the tank the 'real aliens' or fakes put there for humanity to focus on and be scared by while they actually stay safe. There was an original Star Trek where the 'alien' turned out to be a puppet to scare strangers.

I'm really enjoying it so far and looking forward to finding out what happens and I hope the quality stays really high. I don't want to be let down by some easy cop-out resolution!”

Good Point, I remember one novel where two groups of Aliens landed on Earth at the same time. IIRC one group claimed to want to help the Earth while the other claimed the Earth was going to be Destroyed. As it was both groups were decoys to keep Earth occupied while the real Aliens carried on their plan in secret.

We could easily be looking at something similar here, just realised that Aliens of London/WWIII used the Decoy Alien ruse as well, maybe we really are dealing with the Slitheen again

Glad to see the Doctor get a mention.

You've hit the nail on the head for me as well.

I WAS expecting it to be all guns a blazing and fast action, quick pacing and editing, so for most of the first episode I was slightly disappointed, then it clicked, and as you say I began to notice the writing, the excellent performances and the soft pacing, like a 'proper' drama if you will. Watched the first episode again straight after and loved it.

A fast paced cheeky nudge nudge Torchwood over 5 nights would be pretty unbearable, but I think RTD and the co writers have got it spot on, absolutely spot on.

I suppose it is a tricky situation, when a show is 'slow' paced (to use a phrase) it gets called boring and dull, when a show is faced paced it gets called 'dumbed down'. I suppose it is a no win situation sometimes.

So full credit to the TW team for also giving us well paced drama. Yes, it's dumb at times but thats why I love it as well, sci-fi is great when its being dumb, and the beauty of this 5 parter is that one second it's as dumb as a hat full of badgers and the next second they give us a stunning performance from Peter Capaldi.

Pretty much been spoilt this week.

Agreed, its great having 'fresh 456' - I mean, 'fresh Torchwood' to look forward to this week.

I love the way they took their time with the 456 talks. There was a lot of talking heads and talking, urm, alien heads (do the 456 have heads? ) in the last 10 minutes, but Christ, those minutes were tense.

I was just sitting there, thinking 'this is all gonna go horridly wrong any second now.....but how? And why?'

Great stuff.

I think the 456's voices were pre-recorded. They only say 'yes' or repeat what the minister said, or repeat the government line. It's a government conspiracy. Maybe there are no aliens. Maybe it's the Nestenes back again.

While I'm pretty sure the 456 will be a species we have not seen before from what little we did see of them I did wonder if it could have been the Nestenes.

just what I was thinking...he also may have been under orders and not told everything - Torchwood was well different back then.

feels so odd to be weeks behind y'all...but am so glad that BBC America decided to getting things to show faster almost as soon as I moved back here from there! lol. (used to take 6 months or more!! I would be dead!)

I LOVED this ep! I'm surprised I have finger nails left!

I had no doubt that Jack was involved and am looking forward to his discussion of it tomorrow. I do not think he would do anything sinister on his own - Torchwood was a much different place then and he was probably following orders, possibly told that no matter how bad giving 12 kids was...that any other option would be worse.

I am going crazy in waiting till tomorrow...

Hi Millard, I was just wandering if you and others here watching over in the US have managed to avoid spoilers?

Are you viewing with no knowledge of what happens in the final episodes?

If so well done, it must have been tempting.

I know some over here do know what happens and have told them to shut up! lol. gave my friends and family over there warning that if they told me I'd shoot them and kind of avoided this message board from the moment it started over there!!! lol.

its been hard work but well worth it as am loving not knowing whats coming...

it's DEFINATLY been tempting!!! I used to tease my friends in the USA about getting to see everything well before they did and now thanks to a divorce, I'm in teh same boat with them in having to wait! lol

Good on Ya, no point spoiling the final episodes at all, Im glad there were no spoilers for the UK broadcast as it would have ruined it for me. I agree it isn't always easy avoiding threads that say 'SPOILERS!!!', it's like a wet paint sign, you still have to touch the paint to see..

Personally I'm doing well on spoilers for the Doctor Who specials that are still to come, having avoided all spoiler threads for that so far, so I'm pretty much in the dark for them and intend to keep it that way. But I've been letting myself down with the new Matt Smith series 5 photos.

Anywayyyy, don't give into temptation about spoilers for Children Of Earth, you'll regret it.

well the new Doctor pictures are different...though really wish I hadn't looked at all of them when I had only really wanted to see his outfit! lol.

I dread when y'all are getting the new Doctor Who's over there and we ain't over here! last time my friends here said they were only a few weeks behind so hopefully it will be that way (or faster) this coming time.
