Confusion over frozen chicken

I've always believed that you HAVE to defrost chicken before cooking it as if you cook it whilst it is frozen is doesn't kill of the germs and you'll end up not very well.

However, Iceland now have these "cook from frozen" chicken breasts...and I don't understand how they work. They are just frozen raw chicken so why can you cook them from frozen nd not others? I bought some and tried it dubiously but all was well.

Then I usually defrost chicken in the microwave and I bought frozen chicken breasts from a supermarket but that says "not suitable for microwave cooking". Why would that be and does it mean I can't deforst it in the microwave?

So confuselled.

It depends on the size. I get Asda frozen Chicken Breasts and they cook fine from frozen, it just takes a bit longer. I normally cut them up halfway through cooking to speed things up.

Just make sure you slice them and check they're fully cooked (no pink and juices run clear) before eating though.

If I'm doing a Curry and want to cut them into pieces I part defrost them in the microwave on a low setting until they are a still firm but easy to slice, before browning them.
