cat on vidalta

Is anyone else giving their cat vidalta for hyperthyroidism?

I am concerned about the way my cat is after 3 - 4 weeks of treatment. He has odd days when he is sick and often will not eat. I've tried everything I can think of to tempt him to eat but nothing is working.

Hi, my cat was on this but it didn't seem to have any effect so the vet swapped her over to a different tablet. Have you been back for more blood tests yet? My vet wants to see my cat every 2-3 weeks to repeat the blood tests and adjust the dosage.

It wasn't until she swapped tablets that we saw any improvement and i'm back in a week or so for another check! Hopefully she'll be improved enough for her to have the operation to remove her thyroid gland and no more tablets (she hates having them!)

He's had his blood test and the tablets have made a big difference to the results this time around. Have to take him back in another 10 days for next test. I just wish I could get him to eat, he is ok for a few days and then wont look at anything.

Would love to have his thyroid removed instead of going with the tablets but the vet said he would only have a 30% chance of surviving. He is 16 and has other health problems.

Just a suggestion for his eating - try Glenryk pilchards in tomato sauce, I've bought them from Asda before but presumably any supermarket will sell them.

A couple of years ago my cat died from FIP, when he was in his decline and totally off his food, these were suggested to me and they worked, he ate them.

I was told that its the strong smell and taste that piques their appetite. Worth a go for your boy perhaps.
