Alesha commenting on one of the professional's performance will go down like a lead balloon.

The judges aren't there to critique the pro's - just the celebs and have never commented on the pro's dancing, just the choreography.

However, Arlene at least used to give some constructive criticism for the pro's to work on with the celebs for the following week. I wonder what pearls of wisdom Alesha will bring to the show - very few I suspect.

^ He's worried that this decision might affect the current audience - I sort of agree. Whilst they are hoping to attract a younger audience they might lose some of the older ones, especially woman who might view this decision as sexist.

.....and it often worked, because you could see an improvement in many cases. How can Alesha do that?

I find that I am not looking forward to this series as much as I was................

If I were the professionals I'd find it all a bit insulting. I mean I hope it works and she's a 'performance' judge or something, but to the replace her with Darcey makes it seem its a full on judge role.

Darcey,,,,,absolutely fine with that. I've heard that she doesn't suffer fools gladly though ”

Agree 100%.

Darcy would be a good judge but Alesha will be dreadful. Lovely girl but over exposed, unknowledgable about dance and will be even kinder than Len to the no-hopers.

That would be the professionals choreography being critiqued by a showbiz personality. Still wouldn't go down well.

Why don't they go all out and replace Craig with Graham Norton, Len with Noel Edmonds and Bruno with Roque Santa Cruz.

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie to this forum and this is my first post.

Whilst Alesha Dixon is a beautiful person I dont think she is the right person to take over from Arlene.

If I remember correctly when Alesha was a contestant on the show she said she had NEVER had dance lessons so why the BBC offered her a judges role beggars belief.

Darcy, no problem with that one at all.

If the BBC were looking for "fresh blood" could they not have offered the job to a QUALIFIED judge.

I absolutely love Alesha and positively detest Arlene (it terms of her strictly persona) but this is not a sensible move.

Arlene going I am very comfortable with, but there should be another ballroom judge to make up the numbers. Bruno votes on performance and personality, Craig on choreography and performance and Len on ballroom. Performance will get too much weight, especially as the public vote on performance and personality.

It's clearly about viewing numbers and not dance but I think it will water SCD down. Alesha is not doing her career much good (unless she wants to move out of music and into presenting).

Darcey I am very happy about.

There needs to be a clause in Alesha's contract, that she does not laugh on TV.

One laugh and half the fee withheld.

Do really need a judge to be there to judge on the performance?

Bruno and Craig do that anyway. They just didn't point it out in a press release.

Can she even judge on the performance? Is she just going say things like 'I love your energy'. I could sit at home and say the same things.

I think the judges should have superior knowledge than the audience and give us judgements on things that we wouldnt know.

If her critique is going to consist of a few vague statements on the performance and nothing technical - whats the point?

Maybe Matthew taught her some of the more technical aspects of each dance, but that still doesn't mean she should be a judge, though I think she could bring a lot in terms of judging the celebritie's performance, and I think she will be honest enough to criticise celebs when their performance has been poor, but in a less brutal manner than Craig or Arlene - but I just don't see the point of her being there.

That said, I can see her being a hit with some of the audience, my cousin was very excited when she found out Alesha was on the judging panel and I think she'll be a hit with younger viewers (and casual viewers, not the avid fans who post on here).

I really think this is a bad move Alesha is just not in a position to comment on dances from any real perspective.

Its going to turn into and sugar and sweet programme where everyone is nice to everyone else even if they are rubbish.

And fans will fall away by the bucket load imo

No offense to Alesha but there are several regular posters on this site who would make a better judge then her......she just has`t got the credentials or knowledge to judge the contestants......I`am actually surprised she accepted the offer by the BBC.

No, I don't particularly like her either. Her dancing was very overrated too. The decision to make her a judge is a bit of a joke.

I would like to know the BBC's justification for this daft idea

Very very bad decision - what added value can she bring as a judge????????????????????????

I seriously doubt I will watch it now - had enough of that annoying laugh when she was last on the show

Not happy with this- Alesha being used in a position she is not suitable for- Karen or Camilla should have been approached for this first

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

This just smacks of desperation, micro management and fear. So what if X Factor is popular with 'young' viewers, why can't Strictly be popular with people over 30? The BBC is not a commercial channel, it does not have to meet advertisement demographics, it's a public service broadcaster. And surely young people can appreciate Arlene's skill and background - they have for the past 6 years! It's insulting and more than a little pathetic.

The show, other than some issues with voting, was not broken and did NOT need fixing but now it seems they're bringing in gimmicks and 'guest judges' and sellilng out the whole professional aspect of the show by bringing in a novice to 'judge' and fiddling around with a winning format to chase ratings.

If they wanted a fresh view, they could have added Alesha to the existing panel and gone to five like DOI, but no, they just got rid of the middle aged woman and replaced her with a younger model.

I'm really saddened by this whole thing, and without being all DRAMAZ!?!!! about it, I will not be watching this year after 6 years of being a massive fan.

I adore Alesha: she's my all-time favourite contestant but this decision is frankly ridiculous. The BBC are hoping that Alesha will be like Cheryl Cole, yet this in itself is flawed. Cheryl was already very well-known, whereas Alesha's appeal is mostly centred among the SCD audience, meaning very few viewers will actually be added to the ratings.

Indeed, I feel her additon will only detract people. SCD is not like TXF, where the judges are probably more of a focus than the contestants. I watch SCD to hear the professional opinion. They always highlight flaws that escape my vision. Could Alesha do this?

Equally, how would you feel if, in a 20 year career at the top of your game, you are judged by a novice who knows only the very basics? That is what the dancers must be feeling.

Alesha was on ITT last year championing John Sergeant. Would she allow her emotions to marr her judging?

I just wish Alesha had left the show as she did: an amazing dancer and all round good egg. I don't want to see her return in this capacity. I fear that it will be detrimental to the series and Alesha's career. Wrong move...

Despite being a huge Alesha Strictly fan, I wasn't at all sure I wanted to see her as a judge before today, but I don't want to write her or the show off before this year has even begun!

Whilst Alesha lacks ballroom/latin experience, she does have the full Strictly experience and can add a new persepective and insight in that way. The BBC seem to have said from other posters reports that she is there to comment mainly on performance aspects and Arlene herself said that Alesha was one of the best performers they had ever had on Strictly. Celeb journey stories always do well and Alesha will have a good insight into that. How many of the millions who watch are experienced dancers anyway - the performance and entertainment value must influence some non-dance voters and Alesha is surely able to comment on those aspects as well as the next person?

Also, has it actually been said by the BBC that Alesha has been brought in to target a younger audience or could it just be due to her perceived general appeal? OK she's not everyone's cup of tea, no one is, but her win proves she does have some appeal across all ages. Also, in her interviews Alesha has said more than once that the demographic of her fanbase has got wider since Strictly. As the most recent winning female with a pretty high public/media profile, and someone very positive who promotes the joys of Strictly at every opportunity, she will give Strictly great publicity and I do think she deserves a chance to show what she can do before judgements are made. The decision to replace Arlene was a BBC decision not an Alesha decision and Alesha shouldn't be pre-judged (no pun intended) for that.
