Have the chart rules changed???
I've just noticed that singles are now back with 5 or 6 version of the tracks again - have they reverted to the 40 minute rule again?? If so, when did it come into effect? This is brilliant news if true, it will save dance music in this country!!!

A remix of the same song is counted as 1 song, so as long as there aren't more than 3 songs it's ok.
But the entire CD must be under 20 mins. |

You can still put as many tracks as you want on a CD single. But it wont be eligable for the sales chart.
I hope they have changed this stupid rule. Rip Off Britain don't ya just love it

is it not to do with the new '2 tracks for #2' CDs? there are two options for singles. either:
a) just stick to the rules as they were. 20 mins. 3 songs. etc etc. or: b) have one cd 2 tracks for #2, and the *other* just has to abide by the rules that were before the 20 mins 3 songs rules. ie 40 mins, hundreds of mixes, etc etc. |

New CD single rules
There are now two types of CD single. The new two track/10 minute/no extras one and the maxi single. Both qualify for the singles charts and both formats can be issued at the same time for the same single.
The maxi single can have something like 20 minutes of tracks (upto 3 different tracks plus remixes) and if restricted to ONE track, upto 40 minutes with remixes. Maxi singles can also now have upto TWO videos included, so theres potential for some really interesting singles to hit the charts - if the Companies are imaginitive. The new "maxi" rules started on January 1st 2004, the two-track-no-frills CD rules started a few months ago. |

Yeah back to the good old days of confusion by the sound of it.
I want bonus tracks on my singles please, not 23 different versions of one song. Singles are a waste of money as it is. But according to the media, most music is bought by people in their 40s. Record companies take note. |

Ever get the feeling they've relaxed the rules in a desperate attempt to rescue single sales?
Not to mention the fact that, the more tracks there are on a single, the more of a pain it is for someone to try and get them all off the net, and more convenient it is to just buy it. |
