Well personally I shall reserve judgement until I've seen the show and seen how it works with the new format. You never know, it might be better than last year

...Why fix a show that is so clearly not broken?...

I think the problem with the dancing is that not every will vote for the best dancer.
Someone could be brilliant technique wise but just leave people cold, or for some reason or the other people will just dislike them and won't vote. At the end of it the celebs need the votes to stay in and the people who have no idea about dancing what so ever are going to vote for who they like and who entertained them. The judges will have no impact on that other then maybe they'll throw a vote to someone they felt was harshly done by. Not all the time, some people will listen because they want to learn and judge it on the dancing, but I know plenty who mute the judges or else just vote for whoever they like (which I did I voted for Brian and Heather every week and then Lisa, didn't care what the judges said no one was changing my mind ).I do feel sorry sometimes when people like JS go through week in week out whilst not being able to dance. But to be fair he did entertain and people spent their time wanting him in. Whether or not it has to do with the judges I don't know, I know a lot of people including my mum and some friends who voted for him just because they liked him and to them he was what made Strictly. A man who was enjoying himself and trying to learn how to dance. Some of my friends can dance some of them can't. My mum hates dancing but watched the series because I made her. But at the end of the day they all loved him. With the judges I think one of the biggest problems last year was JS was so much poorer then most of the other dancers that the only judge that seemed to be watching him half the time was Craig! Yeah 1s and 2s are harsh but at the end of the day Len was scoring nearly every celeb 6 or higher. If they didn't mark so high at the beginning of the series people wouldn't think Craig AS harsh (a 1 or 2 is always going to be harsh but compare a 1 to a 7 or a 1 to a 4 and which one seems worse?). I do agree that they brought JS score down when they wanted him out but it was too late and by then scoring the next worst dancer with a 6 or a 7 THEN you have people voting for John because the judges were mean to him. ![]() All I'm going to say is even though I do want to be entertained when I watch SCD, I would never have voted for JS (or any other celeb) because he entertained me if he couldn't dance.

I'm still in 2 minds whether to watch this years series, they're making too many changes, why can't they just leave the show alone.

Feeling uneasy? I was before I started reading the threads here, now I feel depressed.
All things must pass, and SCD as we knew it will never return. As someone else said: It's over. It may just take a very long time to die. |

I cannot understand why the BBC felt the need to replace Arlene, yes she could be harsh, but she knows her stuff. Alesha Dixon is pleasant enough, but she is not a dancer, just because she has taken part in the show and knows what it is like to be criticised does not make her an expert. On that basis you could have had Fiona Philips or Kate Garraway on the judging panel. I fear for the future of the show, especially if the rumours are true and there are more changes to come.

I sincerely hope that Alesha is taught not to go off in peals of manic laughter at nothing, after every sentence. Sing - maybe, if you like that type of singing Dance - yes, but only up to a point. Judge - No more than I can. If she was to tell me how to dance, or what I wasn't doing correctly I would be more than a little put out. She won a completion, she is NOT a dancer. r |

Honestly I think the show does need some shaking up (it would become very stale if it was the same thing over and over again) and the judges are the place to start.
For me, Arlene was the most irritating so I've no problem with her going. Maybe they'll define the roles of the individual judges a little more - if Alesha is going to be specifically there to be judging from a performance pov then that's fine by me. It would be better in a way if the judges all had their specialist areas they looked at then you might get a fairer balance of marks e.g. a lowish one from Len because of technical difficulties but higher from one of the others because despite that it was well performed. It also might help to stem the public backlash and stop the silly voting if they feel someone is hard done by. As for the pros, well people move on. Most of the new pros last year turned out well and were liked so I'm happy for a few new ones every now and again. Particularly since we actually get to know them (unlike DoI!). The existing judges are really going to have to reassess how they score - even Craig, who became profligate with the 10s towards the end of SCD6. Because, while she may yet surprise us all, I can't see Alesha marking anyone particularly harshly however poor their actual performance. |

Richard & Judy Davina McCall Kara Tointon some of the celebs were potentially looking at, not bad! Will be a chance for Davina to reinvent herself |

No, not uneasy. I thought the last series was dire in every way and it went on forever! So I wasn’t expecting this years to be that much better.
I haven't got high hopes for the line up tbh. If the producers feel the need to change the judging panel to attract more viewers then I don't think they have much faith in their celebs. Hopefully the new series of DWTS will be as good as the last so I'll stick with that. (but when they open the ticket ballot for SCD I'm still applying for that! LOL) |

Only T&C's showdance made the last series worthwhile for me and I agree is was dire in almost very other way - and I have loved SCD from the very start so it breaks my heart to say that.

Quoted from Message 1 "I remember towards the end of last year there was a lot of talk of many of the longer-standing professionals being axed and replaced with newer dancers à la Brian Fortuna. If this goes ahead, along with anything else, I fear it could be the end of the show as we know it."
As far as I am concerned Brian and Kristina added real sparkle to the show last year so it's not a problem for me if the changes are just as positive this year |

I have a feeling that the BBC may well come to regret this decision when people look back in 2/3 years from now.
I'm all for evolving changes which can bring benefit to any entertainment show but I'm not really sure that Alesha Dixon as a judge instead of someone who knows what they're talking about like Arlene Phillips does is the best way to go out about. It is probably premature to talk about this being the beginning of the end for SCD but one has to wonder if the BBC will commit as many dancers and celebrities to the show in future years if the audience figures do drop this autumn. Conceivably by 2012 the show could be hosted by Anton Du Beke and Tess if Bruce retires with only Len and Alesha judging half a dozen couples from mid November to Christmas. |
