As my SKY HD sub comes to an end, I am wondering whether to get back to Tiscali TV. I was with HomeChoice at my last abode and loved it, but our exchange at out new home was only enabled for Tiscali TV after we joined SKY.

Anyways - my BB is with TalkTalk. They insist my line only gives a speed of 2.05mbs which I know is below the Tiscali TV threshold. However all the speed tests I do come in between 3.42 and 3.75 mbs.

a) would 3.42 be ok for Tiscali TV?
b) if I moved my BB to Tiscali would they test my line more accurately than TalkTalk at the moment in order to give me the green light.

Thanks

Darren

If you are only getting around 2MB, then you will not qualify for the TTV service. What line stats does your router show

Router is telling me 3980kbps downstream and 465kbps upstream. This fits with the speeds tests I have been doing.

Noise Margin is 5.8 db down 13.7 up (whatever that means)
Attenuation is 55.5 db down 32.3 up (again - what? hehe)

I wonder whether talktalk are just using the figures that BT has given them, as they say my line supports 2.05 max.

Your attenuation is very high. Not that I am an expert but you need a low attenuation to get a higher speed.

If you are getting 3.9 meg then you would be able to get TV. I'm not sure I would risk it though. You might find the TV service breaks up if they went ahead nd put it on.

bugga!

Its annoying as I am at the very end of an exchange, with the other end of the street on a different exchange offering much faster speeds! Its also going fibre optic next month *rolls eyes*

I'm afraid it won't work. General rule of thumb is around 12db margin (down)and not over 50/55db attenuation (down). The margin needs to be higher to give you stability.
