Bt have just phoned me up and offered me a free box and free connection. I must admit I was tempted, but having far too many problems at the moment with speed and disconnections and expanding my contract until July at the moment is not a option, so I politely refused.

with speeds like this
This Test comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 2656 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 1750 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 64 kbps

How on earth would Bt vision even work.

I am at the screaming point now.

I'm halfway through my 12 month contract with BT Vision and I've already decided I won't be staying.

When I was offered the BT Vision deal (Part of an offer from BT for me to stay with BT Broadband for another year) I was told I could have the first 3 months free (of BT Vision Gold), this would be done via a £60 credit to my BT Vision account

The credit never happened and I had to make many phone calls and emails for BT to finally honour their offer.

Also, when they were selling BT Vision to me I was told that all content was subtitled (I'm hard of hearing). I have now found out that no on demand content is subtitled (Can't be hard BBC iPlayer has subtitles). This means I'm paying for a gold package and it's associated on demand channels which I can't enjoy.

I am also sick to death of the BT VIsion box itself. The almost daily requirement to rescan for channels just to get teletext working again, the once monthly soft reset required because the box freezes (Which also formats the hard drive and any recordings I wanted to keep) and the constant requirement to keep having to re-enable subtitles every time I change channel.

When my 12 months is up with BT Vision I won't be renewing, instead I'll go and buy a Freeview set top box with a hard drive which is far more stable and costs the same as one year of BT Vision, the benefit being I'll only have to pay once for the set top box and not a rolling 12 month contract like BT Vision.

The on demand service was good BUT don't even think about it if you want to keep any recordings on the PVR part. Any problems with the box, they talk you through a factory reset, 'where's my recordings?', 'oops sorry sir, I forgot mention that you lose them all during that process'. Plus if you stop subscribing to BT Vision they also take away the ability to access your recordings as I found out when they accidently deleted my account.

I won't risk using one again for recording, and have a new PVR.

As I sadi I was tempted, but then if I got a box I would need to buy a T.v licence, ok legally I could use the box without one as long as I only used the on demand and did not stick a aerial in it, but Bt would contact the TVL and they would be on my back and it would be too much hassle.

I was surprised that he did not try harder, there was no hard sales, he did sound a bit disapointed when I said no.

I thought he may have done me a deal on my broadband, but he did not, I would have still refused anyway.

I been thinking of plugging in my old US robotics courier dial up modem, it would work bloody faster than my broadband is at the moment.

Saying that I have just come back from my mates place, trying to sort his computer out and his broadband is slow as well and he is on MAD as A fish, so it could be a exchange problem or just the internet as a whole.

I will make up my mind what I am doin at the end of the year, but I am not staying for the same price, I can get a ISP for less.

ney, I think you would be dispointed with HD on Freeview, for a start it will not have the bandwidth so it will be som compressed the quality will br awful.

But then it could be good, but I can't see it myself. If you want HD then Dsat is the way to go.

When i had BT BB the speeds where fine until i got the vision box and then the speed was crap, personally if you want a pvr then go with sky+ or VM V+

My speeds are naff anyway, but saying that I decided this morning to reset my homehub and start from scratch and speeds are better, the sync rate is now under 2Mbits, no doubt because I kept rebooting the router and trying different settings, so my SNR have gone to 18DB. It may settle down in the next week.

I have heard other people say that the BTV box affects the speed of their internet even if they are not using the box, very strange. I expect it to affect the speed when it is in use for On demand.

As for a PVr, there are Freeview PVRs out there as well as Freesat.

I can't see myself ever going for Sky again, but things change.

I'd like to add an update to my previous post:

Since my previous post I have just recieved a bill from BT Vision which is £60 higher than it should have been.

What has happened is that BT Vision have now decided to revoke the £60 credit they were going to give me and have added £60 to my latest quarterly BT Vision bill.

I have just been on the phone with the billing and cancellation departments of BT Vision, both of whom refuse to budge, not letting me cancel or exit my contract (which they have broken by revoking, without warning the deal they offered me to sign up).

I will be contacting OFCOM, OTELO and my solicitor on Monday.
