Bands that have gotten stale as they get older
1 Stereophonics
When they released their first album there was a raw energy surrounding the band and they rocketed to superstardom and rightly so. But in my eyes since they sacked Stuart Cable they have descended into just another pretentious stadium band ala U2. 2 Metallica Pretty much the same as the Phonics, since the Black album they just seem to make heavy ballads. 3 Red Hot Chili Peppers After Blood Sugar Sex Magik all their song just sound the same. They just lost their funk. 4 Oasis Definately Maybe was an instant classic, they next few albums were ok with a few anthem type songs, but anything released since 2000 is just generic elevator music desperately trying to sound anthemy. 5 U2 Still have the odd flash of excellence but pretty much stick to the same formula, and Bono is starting to dissapear into himself lately. I dont know, it seems all of these bands seem to have reached a pinnacle and now just follow the same 'safe' formula of their biggest hits. |

I agree with you, particularly about RHCP. I'd also add the Manic Street Preachers to that list.

I agree
Except for U2.Bono is as active politically as he was years ago so "disappearing into himself lately"-- that doesn't wash.He gets things done and more power to the guy for that aspect of his life and still turning out great songs.
I don't know if you've heard any of the songs from U2's latest album but they sound nothing like their last two albums.U2 have managed to stay on top because they have always been willing to experiment. Not all fans like U2's experimentation but I'm glad that they haven't done a Joshua Tree 2, something you can't accuse Oasis of.They stopped being interesting a few albums ago. I'm off to see U2 on August 14/15 at Wembley and the 20th in Sheffield. The 360 tour looks amazing and they're even playing 'The Unforgettable Fire', which I've never heard live, even though I've seen U2 15 times. They open the show with 4 or 5 songs from the new album and that, to me, takes balls. Can't wait ![]() BTW, I've also seen the Stereophonics live and I would never class them as a stadium band ala U2.They, like Coldplay, just don't have the songs. |

I'm not entirely sure I agree with you about Metallica.
Yes, they got a bit softer in their Load / Reload era (the 2nd is a good album in my opinion), but St Anger was quite Nu Metal (and sucked!) and Death Magnetic was a step back in the old direction For example, All Nightmare Long: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaLETiVyuiY |
