Hey, Pandora, I know it's been half an hour since you last posted but was wondering if you're still there. You sounded understandably upset in your last couple of postings.

Only just read your thread and wanted to say that I am so sorry to hear about the accident.

I lost my 1st cat, Charley, when he was 2 years old and that was because of a road accident and it's heartbreaking, isn't it? Took me 3 weeks to think about him without blubbing . Still get emotional sometimes even now and it's been 8 years but, at least, I can now think about him and smile when I think of his unique and, sometimes, daft anticts and ways. Unsure whether my comment will help you right now but just want you to know that there are thousands of people out there who can empathise with how you are feeling.

I'm very sorry about your cat. The same thing happened to my brother's cat last year (he was an adult cat, one of 3 and the favourite of my 4 year old nephew). Once again, it was a moron driving too fast. The worst part was that he thinks this person lives in the community (small) but this person couldn't be bothered to stop - just knock on a few doors or something. It's the selfishness - the 'the rules don't apply to me' attitude that makes me so very angry!

I know some people say a cat is just a pet but I expect that everyone on this forum, as pet owners, will understand it's not that simple. I wish I could think of something helpful to say! I just wanted to sympathise as a fellow pet owner.

Upsetting as it may be to hear this, the driver wasn't ignoring the rules.

The law doesn't require a driver to stop, or report, when they hit a cat.

I wouldn't mind leaving the whole driver debate thing after last night please guys. I realise I started it, but I've discussed it through the thread and would like to leave it if we could. At the end of the day, although it is a little beyond me how someone could not even slow down to see what they hit, my little man was gone either way. So anything else doesn't really matter.

About last night, some people may have thought I overreacted, but past experiences make me believe that I did not. But anyway.

Thank you for this, and for others comments. I read your comment last night and it did help thank you, I just didn't feel like posting again.

I still feel absolutely heartbroken, but reading other peoples stories has helped. It sounds silly but when you feel this rubbish, it's hard to comprehend that you ever won't feel this rubbish, and it's nice to hear of people enjoying their memories of their pets, and I am looking forward to getting there. It's also nice to be able to talk to people who understand why I feel so rubbish, a lot of people I'm around at the mo I'm not sure do.

I managed to get a couple of hours sleep last night which is a couple more than the last two nights! My boy is still being a fuss bucket, but seems OK. I'm very paranoid about him going outside, even though he does spend most of his time indoors, but I guess that's natural at the moment.

Again, thanks a lot to everyones nice comments.

i have 2 cats both mine are indoor due to their breed my boy is a ragdoll the girl is a ragamuffin but i keep them in for other reasons too one is we live very near 2 main roads one is the main leicester-peterborough road and 2 so many people really hate cats i would be so distraught if anything happened as luck would have it due to the breed the insurance is invalid if they go out so its not a major problem they are both quite happy indoors

Pandora Black you have my deepest sympathy. I have 2 14month old girls and I would be gutted if anything happen to them. I was wondering were your cats neutered? I ask this because male cats who are neutered are less likely to get run over as they wouldn't roam around so much looking for mates. When I got my cats I read up loads of info on neutering and the benefits etc, and this was mentioned.

Really? I didn't know this, I guess it makes sense. Yep, both boys were done before I let them out the house, even more reason to get them done I suppose! It happened very close to our house so he wasn't going far, he was just a nosy, social bugger who obviously thought there was more fun to be found on the other side of the road. There is a park on the other side, and he often looked out the window in that direction, despite not ever going round the front until now, I guess curiosity got the better of him.
