What can I use instead of soy sauce?
I'm running on a v. tight budget at present, and tomorrow evening I'm making a stir-fry with blackeyed beans. I'm not a veggie, but I'm saving the chicken for later in the week.
I have no soy sauce! I have Chinese 5 spice in the kitchen, stock cubes, ginger, garlic, oranges. Everything except soy sauce, in fact. Spending any money on this mean is not an option, so buying soy sauce is also not an option. What would you do if you were in this situation? |

I realise you've probably already cooked it by now
But chinese five spice is lovely, mix it in while you're cooking.

I'd suggest putting a tea bag in a third of a mug of boiling water. Add half teaspoon sugar and half a teaspoon molasses or treacle if you have it. Part of a stock cube or some Marmite. Splash of vinegar, salt and pepper. Take tea bag out after five minutes.
