Bearded Dragon help!!
Aesa
12-07-2009
Hello everyone,

We've been given a bearded dragon to look after for a couple of weeks, however the instructions we've been given (for this specialist pet, I add) are bloody pathetic - one scrappy bit of paper with things such as 'feed when she looks hungry' on, which blatantly isn't enough!!

Anyways, does anyone here have bearded dragons, who can give us a bit of help? We've been given some odd centi/millipede looking things to feed her, how many of these should we give her a day? I've googled but I thought I'd ask here as well.

Thanks

those would be mealworms

about five or so every day, or every couple of days if it doesn;t eat them all

are you being instructed to give them any vegetables or fruit?
they don't eat much of them but it's best to provide them with some.

We haven't been given any fruit/veg or told to feed her them, but whilst googling it did say that they can have things like dandelion leaves and grated carrot. If she doesn't normally eat these, would it be wise to start giving her them?

some people don't feed it at all... maybe bring it up with the owners before introducing it?

it is good to offer them it, the ones in the animal unit have grated carrot, spring greens, apple... all sorts really

does it have any supplements added to it's food, or water?

Not anything that we're adding, the mealworms might be pre-supplemented though perhaps?

maybe... if they're gut loaded... i can't remember the benefits of gut-loading off the top of my head

but usually reptiles have a supplement powder (with vitamins, and minerals such as calcium) dusted onto their food, in most cases, on their live feed (which is thrown into a plastic bag and tossed around in the powder before feeding)
