purchased the panny blu-ray recorder from amazon and am very pleased with the results.
1.i think the picture quality is better than the humax.
2.the panny starts up a lot faster.
3.you can delete while still recording
4.have burnt a blu-ray disc (confetti ) picture is amazing.
have only found one thing i dont like and that is when you burn a blu-ray disc in hd you can only play it on the panny and not on ps3 or any other blue ray player.
still i will try and firgure out if it is posssible to play a hd disc on another blu-ray player...karl

Hi, how do you find the UI as compared with the Humax? What's the EPG like etc.? Do you perceive any difference between the quality of the SD and HD outputs? Is the UI always in HD even on an SD channel?

There's only 1 epg so ergo it must be HD. I imagine it's got to be like the hdr, ie overlaid in HD using hdmi and scaled to SD over scart

Makes sense I suppose... Does anyone know if it has a CA slot? (It's not clear from other sites I've checked...)

I'm seriously considering taking the HDR back to Comet for a full refund because we're running out of (warranty) time now and especially if this update is not forthcoming...

I bet the UI is rubbish. Both Panasonics recorders I've had previously were poor compared to Sony, and from what I can see the UI for this one is based on the same software. Its a short of early clunky 1990s PC UI that Panasonic seem to have mastered.

Does it really matter that much if the UI is a bit 'clunky', providing that it works? If it works, what the problem? I don't watch the UI, afterall

Anyway, for that price I expect a phenominal UI

It matters hugely. The UI is the "shop window" of the product when it comes to comparisons to others; not only with the actual functionality. The user experience is strongly influenced either way through this after all...

I agree that the UI must be functional, but phenomenal? The UI on my Sony Freeview recorder isn't the best, but it works. On that basis, I'm happy. What use is a great-looking UI that doesn't do the job?

I suppose that we'll have to agree to disagree here. I'm far more interested in the stuff that really matters - picture and sound quality, for instance.

The UI is about much more than the G in GUI. It's about how the user interacts with it, is it intuitive, easy to get around without having to resort to the Manual? etc..

The Freesat/HDR GUI is fantastic to look at, but some people on here say it is not intuitive, the same buttons do different things on different screens, takes too many button presses to complete simple functions, etc.

That's why there are so many threads complaining about the HDR UI, not because it's not great looking.

Rgds.
