Err..

Returning to the topic...

As is often the case, the BBC are only concerned with ratings so are desperate to beat X-Factor every year.
As if those who watch either programme give two monkey's which programme has the most viewers as the formats are entirely different and appeal to different people. The BBC consider providing a family entertainment programme for early-evening Saturdays, is secondary.

We've already had the nonsense over the years where the number of programmes has been over-extended by the addition of more and more competitors, so many that for the first couple of weeks they have to split up the sexes. This is the BBC's ham-fisted attempt to go "like for like" with X-Factor.

Including Alesha Dixon won't drag viewers away from the X-Factor, in fact, it might make some SCD viewers watch an entirely different programme.
Arlene provided some good entertainment. Most people aren't bothered about her expertise, they like to witness the rows between the judges, just as X-Factor viewers like to laugh at some of the acts which are rubbish.

No blame can be put on Alesha, it's just another job. She won't add anything to the format. I can't see the point of including Darcy Bussell either. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

But then I can't see the point of the BBC, run by 400 "suits" on over £100K a year trying to justify their existence, yet the standard of programmes gets steadily worse.. and they still want more money.

I honestly dont believe that anyone will carry out their threats to boycott the show JUST because Alesha is a judge, most people watch the show to see the pro dancers and to see the celebs, nobody in my opinion actually watches it for the judges, can anyone on here claim they only watch SCD for the judges comments ? it would be cutting off your nose to spite your face and while people may mump and moan about it, i bet the still get record ratings on the first few shows at least, so job done as far as the BBC is concerned.

Bit of a sweeping statement that.
As I said, some people may choose not to watch it.
My point was that the presence of Alesha Dixon won't encourage many people to give up watching the X-Factor to watch SCD. Those that like both programmes will watch one and record the other. "simples."

It's just the attitude of BBC suits who think that this sort of woolly thinking will make a difference. It's another example of their "ageism" when it comes to women on TV. This is probably because a high proportion of the "suits" are women much younger than the ones they want to get rid of..

Like many programmes SCD has a finite life, hasn't "everybody" been on it? We now get totally unknowns dragged in.
Even ER came to an end.

I am going to reserve judgement on Alesha until after the first few shows.

It will also be interesting to note whether any of those who say they aren't going to watch the show mysteriously feel able to comment on the performances.

This is where I'm conflicted. I like Alesha, I don't think she qualified to judge the dancing but I think she may be an entertaining addition to the show.

However the way the BBC are treating older women is appalling and one way to show them it's wrong is to reduce viewing figures.

But I love Strictly why should a bunch of incompetents stop me enjoying it?

I still haven't made my mind up yet.

Im not even convinced Arlene's sacking is anything to do with her age, I think its more to do with the fact she was actually very annoying as a judge.

However, I agree that Alesha isn't qualified to judge the dancing but imo neither is Bruno.

At the end of the last SCD series there were a great number of people wanting a shake up of the judging panel, and now its happened they're threatening to boycott the show.

In SCD6 controvery raged nationwide over John and Kristina with coverage by national dailies and TV, with civil war in this forum for weeks. Some distanced themselves from the bitter taste in the mouth by staying away.

Ironically it was the 3-3-1 pantomime which injected comic relief into a flagging show, which then ended on a high with Tom and Camilla's sparkling showdance, to the relief of BBC.
