I have just rang and cancelled my Tiscali service and he says it will go off in the next 48 hours.

My questions are:

1) I am going to be billed for the whole of july but the service will terminate over the next 2 days so when will they issue a refund or am I safer cancelling the direct debit after the july payment is taken and cutting my losses? I have heard horror stories about tiscali continuing to bill people after cancelling.

2) I was told when I joined that the tiscali tv router was mine to keep, I presume this is true and the engineer who collects the set top box won't try to nab it. Can I put new firmware on that router so it will work with other ISP's?

Thanks in advance.

I left Tiscali Tv a couple of years ago (only because I cant get it at my new pad), so things may have changed.

a) I had to "claim" my refund on my bill by ringing up and they issued a cheque. It wasnt refunded automatically

b) The router was useless with my next provider as it was a cable router rather than ADSL. I know TTV comes down an ADSL line, but back then the BB router was secondary being connected to the primary STB (not sure if that is still the case).

No, the problem I have is, they gave me a thomson TG585v7 adsl router, which in theory should work on any ADSL service, but it seems they have put tiscali firmware in it.

All the router config pages are tiscali branded. I am thinking maybe it is locked to tiscali.

I would like to know how to flash the firmware and get it back to being a generic thomson router so someone else can use it or I can have it as a spare.

its pretty easy to flash your modem if you understand that sort of thing, i did it accidentally once with a branded be* modem, just go to the support pages for thomson and download a updated firmware or via a torrent, it should just write over the existing software, i cant remember how i did mine but be* where well pissed cause i was able to change the line attenuation i think ya call it to improve my speed, they replaced the modem immediately! ooops! but then i went and bought a netgear modem which always increased my connection by at least 2mbs.

good luck.

I just knew it couldn't go smoothly.

I cancelled on monday and was told my broadband and tv would be switched off in 48 hours and they are coming to collect the box tomorrow morning and guess what?............It hasn't been turned off.

At least I did i early and will be paid up to the end of july.

Tiscali have a great TV and broadband service but the customer service is a nightmare.

They seem to have no retentions department either. I rang to cancel and they just said they were putting it through, no attempt to keep me whatsoever.
