I was 12. I remember we started the day at our friends' house in Leicester and Status Quo's opener was perfect. Then my mum and I drove to my aunt's house in Aylesbury, and had it on the radio - my mum didn't want to, but I insisted. I remember being very very excited. That night was my Granny's birthday party and we had a barbecue, but I kept dashing inside to see the telly to see who was on now. I was desperate not to miss Duran Duran and Madonna. I remember that every so often, everyone else would come in too and see a bit, and comment about how hot everyone looked and how fantastic it was.

Oh, and I definitely remember all of us watching the Cars song with that dreadful video. Omg, that was shocking.

I wasn't allowed to stay up and watch it all, at least, I don't think I was...

I was 17 at the time...Queen were the best by a mile. I really can't remember that much of the rest. The Cars and video of course, but Bowie got on my nerves by being pretentious by going down on one knee praying.

I remember going to a party that night so didn't see the US concert.

I remember :

Status Quo's Rockin' All Over The World opening the show.

Pinky-green lines on the screen all through the day - we all assumed it was to put us off videoing it.

Phil Collins performing live in London then flying off to appear in the USA, and watching that too.

Bowie and Jagger.

Freddie Mercury making everyone else pale into insignificance, stealing the day and continuing his role of the Greatest Showman that ever fronted a band.

The Quo kicking things off like only they can. Pure rock 'n' roll.
Geldof holding the crowd in the palm of his hand during "I Don't Like Mondays."
Phil Collins rushing off to catch a Concorde to Philadelphia.
Watching Soviet and Japanese bands live by satellite for the first time (!)
Bryan Adams starting things off in America complete with crackly satellite link.
Bono acting like a true superstar for the first time.
Queen putting in an awesome performance, they got the idea of the day exactly.
"**** the addresses, there are people dying NOW, so gimme the money !"
Bowie wowing the crowd and leaving them in tears after that video.
Paul Mc Cartney's mike packing in and the crowd singing "Let It Be" for him.
The "Do They Know It's Christmas" finale in July !
Madonna's first real appearance on a world stage.
Phil Collins appearing on stage in America after leaving Wembley hours earlier.
Led Zeppelin reforming.
Simon Le Bon missing that note in "View To A Kill" !
Teddy Pendergrass making his first public appearance on stage since being confined to a wheelchair.
Mick Jagger ripping Tina Turner's skirt off during "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll"
Lionel Richie and a cast of thousands murdering "We Are The World" !

Ah the memories, what a fantastic day that was.

I'm sure there's stuff I haven't mentioned, someone will put that right !

EDIT: Try http://liveaid.free.fr/

Queen blew everyone else out of the water, 20 odd minute set and had every single person on the planet clapping in unison.

They did exactly what was asked of them, Play the hits.

Queen doing Radio Gaga will be my lasting memory, along with Bob geldof banging his fist on the table, and saying" give us ya f**ckin money...nowwww!!!"(or words to that effect)

My enormous disappointment that the plane carrying Phil Collins to America didn't crash into the sea.

I was baby-sitting that evening, and having read the paper and done the crossword, etc, I put the TV on and although I wasn't (and am still not, sorry!) a Queen fan I have to say that the sight of umpteen thousands of people clapping to 'Radio Gaga' is my abiding memory of Live Aid. Plus poor old Bob begging for money but having to remember not to swear!!!

I've seen Queen live after that but that set was their moment.I haven't seen another performance on a stage like that since and doubt I ever will. They quite simply don't make front men like Mercury any more.Freddy would have pissed himself laughing at all these groups that use auto tune

I have to admit that Live Aid was something else, in terms of it being the first big charity concert, and probably the best. It grabbed the worlds attention and did more than anyother charity concert ever.

As for the day, I remember watching various acts, but not really keeping in touch with everything. Of course I watched Queen, as a Queen fan it was almost compulsary to do so. I enjoyed U2's set, and if anyone came close to Freddie and the boys that day it was them. I think they used Live Aid as a launch pad to global dominance, which they can't be blamed for.

The later performances I didn't see, as unfortunately the neighbours were hosting a party (the first one they had ever hosted) so I was dragged around by the parents and no one really bothered about Live Aid althoguh they all contributed.
