Maldon sea salt - RIPP OFF

FFS - salt is salt after cooking. What is all this tosh about using Maldon sea salt??

Do some people eat food and question the seasoning in terms of: "Oh dear - I can tell this wasn't seasoned with Maldon sea salt! "

Just because Jamie Oliver quoted the name in his books doesn't mean we have to buy into the scam.

I rarely cook with salt - leave others to season their food - but I always use sea salt, though I'm not bothered about brand.

I've never read a JO book and I don't generally watch his programs.

I use it because my taste have changed. I want to use less table salt, which in this house is cheapo chemical stuff, and I definately prefer it used on prepared food such as chips and potato dishes and in dressings.

I use Maldon sea salt but that's because I try and season whilst cooking, and not have to add any salt to my meals afterwards - table salt is over processed and full of chemicals. I've used all sorts of different salt - the Cornish stuff is great (small cardboard packet) but other stuff I've used isn't flakey enough and just remains great big lumps even though it' s not the stuff meant for a salt grinder. You also don't use as much of it as you do regular table salt...

I was using Maldon salt when Jamie Oliver was still in school so buying into a scam doesn't come into it. The simple fact is, it tastes better, you don't need as much, and the price is relatively high because the process is quite labour intensive. It's also better for you as there are no chemicals added and this is obvious when you taste it alongside Saxa for instance. Instead of dismissing it out of hand as "tosh" you might want to do a little research before going off on one.

I always use sea salt, (not Maldon but a brand I have been using for years). Ok this might sound silly but I find sea salt saltier, or maybe it just has more flavour, and I tend to use less. Also with sea salt, especially Himalayan sea salt you get minerals that haven't been processed out.
