Gallstones diet
19 year old daughter has been diagnosed with gallstones (hereditary). Any ideas what I can feed her - cutting out fat? Spent hours picking up bits and pieces from Tescos...low fat food is expensive! Ended up with a much bigger bill than usual

For six months until my operation to remove gallstones and gallbladder, I survived mainly on chicken (grilled or boiled), loads of veg and fruit, baked beans, Heinz Lentil Soup, Table Water Crackers, jacket or boiled potatoes (no fat added), tuna in brine or spring water, white fish, wholemeal bread (no more than three slices per day), skimmed milk, apple juice, Muller Light fat-free yogurt.
Things I was told to avoid were eggs, full-fat or semi-skimmed milk, mayo, butter, ice-cream, cream, any fried foods, biscuits, chocolate, crisps, fizzy drinks, alcohol. What I used to do when I went shopping was to look at the ingredients and always go for anything which had less than 1g fat per item. |

Should also add cheese to the list of forbidden foods.
The only cheese I was allowed was cottage cheese.![]()
