Odd cos they charge for the box if it not under contract, my parents had it couple of years ago and nevr used it and they never requested it back.

Mine ends on Tuesday so will watch with interest.

If you have run the full term of the 12 or 18 month contract then yes it is yours, if not no. BT can ask for the equipment back and levy a charge.

Well i have come to the end of my 18 month contract and they want it back, can only go by whats happened to me, i wouldn't sell it just in case......

As its just sitting in my loft i have no issues in sending it back...

They supplied a return bag and have stated no cost to me, so not sure if things have changed.....

I guess what needs to be determined is whether the box HAS to be returned, as opposed to BT simply requesting its return.

It makes sense for BT to request that unused boxes are sent back to reuse them, regardless of whether the box has to be returned under contract.

If you DO own the box, what are the implications if the box fails - would you have to pay to replace it? In that sense, I'd rather I didn't own it!

So what happens if you have paid the £60 for the box? Well £30 for the box and £30 for the connection as it was. would you get your £30 back from BT?

You could put it on ebay, but they dont seem to sell, and if they do, not for much!

Think its due to the fact that you need BT Broadband and a BT Vision account even to use it to watch Freeview, so anyone with BTBB already can probably get a brand new one from BT free or under some cheaper incentive.

BT never asked for my equipment back wehn I cancelled almost a year ago - I took the Hard Disk out of the box, and sold that on eBay - you'd probably make more on that alone than you will on the whole vision box itself!

Only useful thing about a second hand box is the hard drive! Or the network adapters if you throw them in too. I'd charge back someone if I was conned into buying one.

This may be something to do with the new regulations re: disposal of electronic equipment ie it is now illegal to dispose of such stuff in the normal waste and must be disposed of in a prescribed manner ie by specialist waste disposal agents, by placing in the specified skip at your refuse, etc. As part of this, there is a requirement that the provider of your equipment has an obligation to, and must if requested, take back your old equipment for disposal in a suitable manner.

Not exactly new but the supplier is not obliged to do this for free and may levy an appropriate charge for this if they wish.

They also can have other agents or companies do this on their behalf and that may include just giving you the ability to take it to a specific location.

You sure about the 'not free?'....
If they tried to charge me, I'd just dump it on the doorstep overnight!

Am I hearing this correctly, The could charge you for distroying it? Which would effectivly mean being pulled apart and sold for scrap or what ever in India/Africa?

judging by my past experience with BT they'd probably charge you for destroying it, not do so and sell it to another customer 'as new'.
