Who misses ITV's afternoon soaps?
I remember we had The Sullivans, Sons and Daughetrs, Young Doctors, A Country Practice, High Road then later on we had Home and Away, Families and Shortland Street
ITV 1 in the afternoon is complete bore of late |

Well thats probably because British tv doesn't really want to buy Australian soaps anymore. Apart from H&A and Neighbours they have pretty much fallen of our schedule. I guess they aren't as cheap and cheerful as they used to be. H&A is having problems with their ratings in Australia too, recently getting beaten by Neighbours for the first time in forever.

I think Children's ITV is a bigger loss tbh. Mind you, it started going seriously downhill as early as 1993.

They could repeat Prisoner Cell Block H again in the evenings at 11.30, better than that crime thing with Steve thing.

I used to bunk off college to watch them and then have great conversations with friends on the train next morning about Sons and Daughters.

![]() ![]() ![]() Marty Bryant was a babe, I loved his spikey hair, and Tim the policeman was cute too ![]() Mum, Connie & Andrew were fantastic characters too ![]() Having so, so many big names from the Australian soaps of the time, RH should have been a massive hit, but sadly it didn't last a year ![]()

I miss Families most of all, though it would have done better in a later slot.
I doubt ITV will invest in any new daytime drama in the foreseeable future; it's much cheaper to stick repeats of Heartbeat and Midsomer Murders in those slots ![]() They could buy up a couple of American daytime soaps and run them in the afternoon, like a lot of other counties do on terrestrial TV; but again that'd cost them too much. I wonder why they don't show some early Coronation Street in the afternoons next year to mark their 50th birthday; I reckon they'd work well with the daytime audience. Ditto early Emmerdale Farm. |

ITV 1 in the afternoon is complete bore of late Afternoons are dull and so are early mornings. Mind you these daysw we do get our aussie soaps issued out on DVD more often. I can remember bunking off college to watch Sons and Daughters and then talking about it on the train with my friends. I liked Santa Barbara which was a morning show too. |

sons & daughters was great, it always struck me as the Auzzie poor version of dynasty or something cos patricia hamilton was so much like alexis lol, but i loved it, shortland street & young docs was good as well, but see they dont make telly like they used to.
I was a closet prisoner fan as well i know it wasnt afternoons but well you just had to sing the feem choon "He used to send me rosessssssssss, I wish he would againnnnnn, but that was on the outside & things were different then"
