But it makes no sense -Smith is not a romantic match to Alex at all If it was a story for a Tennant Doctor changed because he announced he was leaving they just simply would have recast River to a more suitable match if the stories were romantic ..

Nah can't believe it's a romantic scenario -don't know whats going on but they are so not a romantic match ..

It's all to be revealed in the specials I think -what I don't know though .

Judging by the photos I've seen of them together they seem to be getting on wonderfuly.

Sorry should have added the imo which it of course is -I still think it's not a romantic scenario -River would have been recast if it was imo.

For me, I've always seen that moment when she looks at the Doctor in the library, as her looking into his eyes....and not really his face, and even if she has met the Tenth Doctor again....a time for the Doctor after the library events....but before for River....she definitely has met more than one incarnation.....but no incarnation before Ten, just after Ten......I say this because she knows of regeneration, which the Doctor only ever shouts about if he is about to regenerate, or meets a companion who has seen him in a different guise.....

The events of the Byzantium crash, could have happend at any point of all those times that she has met the Doctor....

Like I said on another thread...if the Doctor sees her on Monday and takes her to the moon landing, drops her home, she writes that in the diary, then the Doctor comes that very week again on a friday, and takes her to the museum....then next monday, the Doctor who visits her is the one who hasn't in his time line taken her out yet to the moon landing or the museum....so she would work out from that he is an earlier version to the Doctor who took her out last week...

That is why she was asking the Doctor, the events that she had already done, but which version of the Doctor it was that had come to the library.....one before the Byzantium crash, or the one after....nothing to do with whether it was ten or eleven....for her it was the Doctor.....who obviously visisted her at randoms times of her life.....just like the the Time Travellers wife....

You could be right of course ..i'm still not seeing a romantic match there at all though.I think it must be something else -maybe River is a baddie or something .. -but i'll say no more .

Personaly if I can believe that a man who looks in his 40's first and then in his 30's, can be a nice romantic match for a girl in her 20's...and also if you take in Reinette, who must have been about 17/18 when she first snogged the Doctor.....I have no issue with a woman who looks in her 40's to be with a man who looks like he is in his 20's....


In all cases the Doctor...no matter how old he looks physically...is a lot, lot older than all of his female companions.....

I completely agree that it bears a great comparison with 'The Time Traveller's WIfe' which stands alone as a great novel for anyone to read.
Also., I shall damn myself here by asking why on earth can't the current River and 11 be romantically involved?? That WOULD be a controversial script move if they were, but it happens in real life ALL the time !!

Exactly. I really liked the way SM wrote that whole encounter and the way it was played out (River's well-worn diary-cum-organiser was splendid) but it was straight out of the TTW (which I also enjoyed enormously).

So there's plenty of scope for their paths to cross at random.

Excited to see that this appears to be the Byzantium crash - maybe we'll get a teaser for another event in their mutual existence.

"Have we done the Crash of Byzantium yet?" only says that it was a significant event for them both, not that they were necessarily romantically involved at that point.

It'll be interesting to see how the whole River Song arc will play out. I mean, by what we heard in 'Forest of the Dead', they were re-he-heally involved with eachother.

I always presumed that the whole River Song thing would happen wayyy into the Doctor's future, so far in fact that the series itself doesn't last long enough to tell the tales.

that's what I think too, her spoilers book looked pretty hefty. I doubt we'll ever "see" all the dates River and The Doctor went on

I have great hopes for SM. It's quite possible that Tennant leaving derailed his original story for River Song, but he's proven himself as more than capable.

I await the new series with much anticipation.
