Today I've had a BT installed on the Basic Package (paying the full install charge).

I plan to keep the Line Rental with BT but I'm going with Sky for the Broadband & taking Sky Talk to save the fiver.

The T&C's of the BT Weekend Pack state I have to make one chargeable call with them each month. If I'm with Sky talk, I can't do this (apparently the 1280 override doesn't work anymore).

Will BT fine me? If so, how much? They're still getting my Line Rental!

Make sure Sky know you want their CPS calls package and do not want to transfer your line rental to them as well.

Then, there should be no problem (I've been on BT Together Option 1 (now their Unlimited Weekend Plan) for years with my calls routed via another CPS calls provider (Primus Saver - which gives me free evening and weekend UK 01/02/03 calls of up to 90 minutes each for no monthly fee) without a problem.

I use an Orchid to automatically route my weekend UK 01/02/03 calls via BT (those are the calls which qualify me for free Caller Display) and I make ONE chargeable call via BT (using the 1280* override prefix) each month so I can still get inclusive (free) weekend 01/02/03 calls using the Unlimited Weekend Plan.

* You're right that Sky Talk CPS (WCLI) will mean 1280 won't work - so you will have to get a BT Chargecard to make that call.

Thanks - I'm definately not going with Sky for the LR. I've just ordered this Chargecard but what's an Orchid? I've googled it and it comes back as something a bit businessey...

You have to make at lest one chargeable call a month though BT to keep the free 1571 service or they say they may charge you for the 1571 service. If you are keeping the BT line rental.
I have been with BT for phone for years. Only time I moved from BT was when I made the silly mistake of going with Tiscali for a year for phone as I was with the old Tiscali evening and weekend dial up package at the time that this now longer being offerd but still had the BT line rental.
I got everything back to BT now and have been for just over the last 3 years.
I get free eveninng and weekend landline calls up to 60mins per call via the BT broadband talk servive at no extra charge.

An Orchid is a low cost router of calls - see HERE.

However, they are no longer available.
