Days of our lives
i really miss it, and to think five got rid of it so they could show home grown shit like terry & gabby which is so shit it gets less viewers thans days did.I dont understand five, why would they dump a show that gets a 3.5% aud-share and replace it with a show that gets 2% aud-share? Sure the ratings wernt great, but hey its daytime tv, what do they expect. Judge for yourself: DAYS..........................174,000 viewers or 3.5 share TERRY/GABBY.........100,000 viewers or 2 share |

Yes i do know the ratings for SUNSET BEACH,
I beleave it was five's highest rated daytime show, getting a 6% aud-share for the morning showing. These are 1998 ratings: AUGUST = 720,000 (total viewers per week) OCT/BER=740,000 (total viewers per week) i dont know the ratings for b&b

I loved days of our lives, I was a fan from when I watched it on Sky one back in 1995. At that point Marlena was posessed by the devil.
Yeah I know its a bit out there for a soap but thats what I liked about it. |

soaps
Does anyone remember KNOTS LANDING? It was along the same lines as DALLAS.In fact it featured off shoot characters I beleive. I never watched the original series, but a few years ago when I was out of work it was repeated during the day and I got into it. Then it disappeared as I went back to work Are there any plans for the digital channels to show it, does any one know?

Days of our Lives
Hi, I also really enjoyed Days of our Lives, thought it was really good and I love American soaps better than british ones (except Family Affairs) cos they aren't depressing!!!
But I've been reading that DOOL has got really good ratings in America at the moment because they have a big serial killer storyline going on and loads of the characters are being killed off (even those who have been on the show over 20 years!!) and the killer is reportedly Marlena Evans (do u remember her, the doctor?). If five got the rights again, I'm sure the ratings would go up again due to this storyline, which has already been on for about 4 months and isn't due to end until 2005! |

To answer your question - it was a spin off from Dallas as it had Valene and Gary Ewing in it. It actually lasted 14 seasons on US TV - 344 episodes from 1979 to 1993 (one more season than Dallas). Michele Lee who was fabulous and played karen and Ted Shackleford (Gary) were teh only ones to remain in the show the whole way through. It was a little different from Dallas as the people in the close were not so ridiculously wealthy. The first coupleof years were mainly a story per episode. Then about the time of Sid death (karen's first husband) and also Gary's affair with Abby (the wonderful Donna Mills) - the show became a soap with cliffhangers etc.Does anyone remember KNOTS LANDING? In the UK the show started in 1980 and played in the evening for the first 2 and a half years. Then it was taken off and when daytime TV started in the mid 80s it continued from where it left off and played until about 1995 until it ended - once a week in teh afternoon. UK Gold has repeated it twice but no longer have the rights! |

Re: Days of our Lives
I've been following Days of Our lives online since Channel 5 ditched it three years ago...it does indeed have a HUGE serial killer storyline at present which began last september. So far they have killed off EIGHT major longterm characters and intend to kill off Alice Horton (although there is great uproar among fans who are petitioning to save her)
I agree with the poster who said this would be a great time to bring DOOL back to channel 5 - US soaps have always been very successful here and I think they only ditched it in the first place because it didn't have the phenomenal success that Sunset Beach had...however, if they had given DOOl a bit longer I'm sure it would have picked up the ratings eventually. If Channel 5 picked up the rights and began with the first attack by the killer, on Bo & Hope at a big Salem event, I believe it would be more successful than it was before. I miss my american soap fix!! Helenszone. |

I too was a big fan of DOOL when it was shown on Sky. Would definitely have to watch it if it came back to UK on whatever channel.
