The Vesper - James Bond Style
Let me start by thanking everyone for viewing our mixology series videos. The discussions have been very positive and i feel privileged to talk cocktails with many of you. A couple of weeks ago we had the Martini Shaken/Stirred debacle and referencing James Bond, so this week i wanted to talk about The Vesper!
The Vesper was created by James Bond author Ian Fleming and his friend Ivar Bryce. Fleming later popularised the drink when he gave it its public debut in his 1953 novel, Casino Royale. In the book, Bond himself invents it in a bar, subsequently naming it to commemorate his strong feelings for Vesper Lynd - Bond's first romantic interest in the original novels. Check our video for methods to make this cocktail. Recipe below: 3 PARTS Beefeater London Dry Gin 1 PART Stolichnaya Vodka 1/2 PART Lillet Blanc DASH Angostura bitters (to add a touch of the quinquina that was in the original Kina Lillet formula) SHAKE All ingredients over ice STRAIN Into a chilled champagne goblet GARNISH With a large slice of lemon peel |
